Independent Book Projects

For this project you will choose a book of your choice to read
during class time. I must approve of your book for it to be used in
this project. It cannot be a book that you have read in the past. It
must be at least 150 pages in length. There cannot be a movie or
TV show based on the book you choose.
There are three parts to this project:
1 Book Report Form and Summary
2 Character map
3 A grouping of two projects based on your book chosen from
the list below.
Part 1: Attached to this sheet. Fill out the Book Report and
Summary worksheet as you read your books and then complete
at the end.
Part 2: Create a character map that lists all of the characters (no
more than 20) and how they are related to each other. This can
be digital or hand drawn, either way I expect professional quality.
You will need to do a rough draft of this before your final (trust
me, it will make your life easier). The tricky part will be having
the characters arranged a certain way so that your arrows are not
flying all over the place and hard to follow. Below is an example
of a character map from The Hunger Games.

Part 3: You choose ___ from the options listed below.

Write a letter to the author (at least one page single spaced)
Prepare a television/radio commercial about the book
Design a story board from items related to the book
Create a map of the setting of the story
Design and actually create your own t-shirt of an illustration
from the book
Write and perform a ballad, song, or rap about the book
Write a newspaper article concerning some aspect of the
book (at least one page single spaced)

Write a magazine review of the book (at least one page

single spaced)
Sketch a scene(s), character(s) or fashion(s) from the book
with a two paragraph (5-7 sentences per paragraph)
explanation of your drawing and how it relates to/is
important to your understanding of the literature.
Write a formal resume for one of the characters. At least one
page single spaced.
Create an edible 3D model of something from the book.
Write a Dear Abby letter and response for one of the
characters.
Write a magazine interview with a character or the author.
Create a time line for the plot with at least one picture and
event for each chapter.
Create a crossword puzzle with an answer key (20 words
minimum).
Create a tri fold travel brochure of the setting.
A creative project of your own inspiration that is approved by
the teacher
