For my podcast I am going to do it on womens rights and the
inequality between men and women. I am going to briefly talk about what I
stated in my listicle, which is about how women are treated unfairly and how
all these laws are set in place discriminating against women, specifically in
the middle east. I am also going to talk about some of the present issues
women face exclusively in the United States. One topic I want to emphasize
on is the glass ceiling. Women are being paid noticeably less then men for
doing the same job and something needs to be done about it. A report in
2014 stated that women were being paid just 79% of what men were paid,
leaving a gap of 21%. Another fun fact that I want to touch on is the fact that
certain female necessities arent seen that way. Tampons for example are
considered a luxury item in many states of the United States thus meaning
that these are a taxable item. I think that all women would agree that
tampons are more of an essential item rather than luxury and women would
rather not buy them if they didnt have to. An average woman throughout a
lifetime will spend roughly 2,000 dollars on just tampons. Another topic that I
want to talk about is the issue of rape. I know that can be a complete topic
all on its own but I feel as part of womens rights it needs to be discussed.
Statistics prove that 1 in 5 women will be sexually assaulted and 1 in every 4
women in college are sexually assaulted. These statistics are only based off
of what has been reported as well so the number would be much higher. The
last thing that I want to talk about is the constant degrading of women on a
daily basis. Ever since men were children they have been told the saying oh,
you throw or hit like a girl or dont be a bitch men are shaped around
these sayings and grow up thinking that throwing like a girl or whatever
the case may be is a put down. Overall, men being told they are or have
characteristics of a girl is considered offensive and it shouldnt be. Women
should be valued just as highly as men and saying you throw like a girl
shouldnt be a put down, actually it should be avoided in general. My Last
portion of the podcast will be talking about what we can do in society to
bridge the gender gap and create equality between men and women.
