Explanation Essay: Finding Who I am
The poem Finding who I am is about multiple scenarios in Hermione Grangers
life. This poem can be considered a free verse because it does not have a fixed metrical
pattern. It has four stanzas, and 25 verses. Each stanza has an important detail from
Hermiones life, but the whole poem is about the story of when Voldemort was killed by
her and Harry. This poem is based by the fan fiction I made called True Hero. The tittle
of this poem is Finding who I am because Hermione always had an insecurity about
herself and in this poem she finds her security throughout the situation.
In the first stanza the problem is immediately shown. Her insecurity is that her
parents are human, and they gave birth to a wizard, being called a muggle (Hermione
Granger.) Hermione is an intelligent, brave wizard but this fact about herself always
pushed her back. In the poem the author said: Hermione is in a struggle, is she a human
or a muggle? (Andrea Perez) describing her insecurity. It also said that to be a wizard
you have to be wise and Hermione is extremely wise. That is why I consider her the best
wizard. In this stanza there are no poetic devices.
The second stanza explains that Hermione is a great problem solver. In the
original movie she always disappeared when a problem was happening and came back
with and excellent solution for the situation. She had the ability to understand everything
and mix and match ideas to overcome the obstacle. The author said: She finds a solution
to your problems, her mind immediately blossoms.(Andrea Perez) Referring that her
brain connects ideas to find a solution. This verse can also be described as a metaphor
because minds dont blossomonly flowers do. It also states: Her mind works

throughout the day like the helpful suns rays(Andrea Perez). This is a simile, its
comparing her mind to the suns rays because her mind never stops thinking of ways to
help like the rays of the sun that wont stop shining on flowers to give them energy and
life.
In the third stanza it talks about Voldemorts death. Voldemort is presented like a
snake in the poem. This is a personification because the snake has the abilities that
Voldemort has. The hidden love is actually referring to Harry. It shows that she is
desperate for saving Harry because Harry was failing in the battle. Desperation ate her
body away(Andrea Prez) this is a metaphor describing the desperation that Hermione
had during this intense battle. The moon gave her a sign that it is time (Andrea Perez)
this is a metaphor referring that the moon was coming out and it was getting darker which
told a Hermione a sign that she needs to find a plan and act upon it. Eventually she had
the plan to use a spell and kill the enemy.
In the fourth stanza it lets usk now that Hermione and harry ended up together and
Hermione could find the answer for her internal struggle. The wand did the job, it made
the enemy drop (Andrea Perez) this verse personifies the wand as killing the enemy
when actually is Hermione using a spell through the wand to kill Voldemort. When it says
drop it actually means kill. Hermione said I wont let anyone le me fall. (Andrea
Perez). This stanza ends by letting us now how Hermione is not going to let anyone
destroy the security of herself. She accepted being a muggle and would not care anymore
if someone bullies her about it.
This poem tells the story of the fan fiction but in a rhythm way. It leaves you
thinking what can happen next and analyze her life in the future. Since its based on the

fan fiction, this poem is a change version of the original ending of the movie. In my
mind, the poets mind, it makes more sense like this because Hermione had stuck feelings
for Harry that she never let out. Also, it shows a huge role for Hermione since she helped
harry kill Voldemort. I can relate to feeling stuck because sometime I dont know how to
express myself to people. Which left me thinking that if I open up more I can get the
results I want in my life like Hermiones goals in my poem.
