Re: Revision Memo

The process I used to revise my papers was to first look at the suggestions made on the
original papers. I used all the suggested corrections that were given but not with out
first understanding why the suggestions were made. After reading the papers over again
and having my roommate read them as well, it helped me to understand that the
corrections helped the paper flow better and connect the information together.
Next I then looked at the papers again to make sure the information fit and was still
relevant having had time to reflect on the subject. Making sure that the idea I was trying
to convey was supported by the research I had conducted. I looked over the ideas rather
quickly then left the paper alone. The time that I left the paper alone I spent trying to
distract myself for thinking about it so I walked my dogs and played fetch. This proved to
be a great way to distract. I did however have a little time to think about the paper as
well as the feedback you provided. When I returned I read the paper again and found
that this process let me read the paper from a different perspective. I was not sure what
some of the suggestions were asking for so I looked at the papers in the gallery to get a
sense of what was being asked.
The papers had areas that made very broad statements about the subject I was writing
about and not really focused on the target group for whom I was writing to. Some areas
of the paper did not belong and there was information that was missing. I made the
corrections that helped to eliminate the generalized statements, which then gave my
research more substance and credibility.
The final step was to look for grammar mistakes like run on sentences, spelling and
punctuation. This was the step that took the longest I had to read each paragraph, as it
was its own paper. All these techniques will be used over and over again. It seems that

the revision process for a paper will never be complete as new information and methods
will continue to surface.
