This week in FDK-3

We celebrated Andrews 6th Birthday

Happy Birthday Andrew!

And Pipers 5th Birthday

Happy Birthday Piper!

For Our Community Helpers Unit, we had a Nurse, a Pharmacist
and Police Officer Sid (Kesslers Dad) came in to speak to us.

We attended the Arts Canada production of GOLDIROCKS. It was

excellent!
In Language: We wrote a THANKYOU to our Boughner Buddies for organizing,
teaching, and dancing DanceFest with us. It truly was a fun, stress reduced way for
our class to participate! We worked on alphabet skills. We worked on matching and
then printing the lower case vowels u,e,i. We attended and then wrote about the
GOLDIROCKS production. We learned some basic background information about
the Community workers that came in to speak with us: a pharmacist, a nurse and a
police officer.
Miss Mason read us a funny story about Skippy John Jones and we exchanged our
books. Miss Mason is aiming to have ALL books back by June 3 to begin her Library
inventory. If your child has any outstanding books (longer than the regular one
week borrowing period), please return.
Gym: We used the hula hoops! We played 3 on 3 soccer on mini fields in the gym.
We biked, used the ball/scoops, threw the nerf football and blew bubbles outside.
Religion: We learned about Pentecost Sunday when the Holy Spirit enabled
Jesus followers to begin teaching in different tongues.
Science: The children worked with Miss Angenent to track the growth of the
sunflowers. Mollys apple seed sprouted on the window! The Amaryllis is growing
TALL!

Also, watched daily videos and pictures of the family of 4 baby rabbits in Mrs.
Hickeys front garden. We learned about rabbits and read books about back
yard animals.
In Art: The children worked with Miss Angenent on a part of our Art Appreciation
unit. They chose a famous picture and responded to it orally. The thinking
expressed ranged from hilarious to out of the box! The children also responded
to stories using their bodies. They clapped, slapped and stomped to the rhythm of
the language used in some repetitive stories.
In Music, Drama and Dance: Miss Angenent continues with Musical Lunches and
dance parties. The Piano Guys version of Jungle Book was popular this week.
In Mathematics: We concluded our study of 3D shapes. Assessments went home
in mail bags. We began Probability. We discussed the terms: impossible, probable,
likely and unlikely.
In Personal and Social Development: We had a Roots of Empathy visit with Mrs.
Krug. The children shared their drawings about things they can do now that they
couldnt do when they were younger. Monkey bars and hanging upside down seem to
be huge milestones for this class!
In Inquiry/Directed Play: With our trip to the play and with the visitors coming in,
we had a few days where there was very little unstructured time. The children
coped well with this. They were a respectful audience for all speakers. We were
particularly proud of our Cubs at the play, GOLDIROCKS! Neither Miss Angenent
nor myself had to remind anyone of anything on the bus or in the theatre.
In fact, the bus ride was almost as entertaining as the play! Soooo
much fun!
After Officer Sid came to visit, there was a flurry of making vests, badges, batons
and police vehicles. Responding to our learning in the best possible way!
