CONTEXT
School: Ballingway State School is a regional metropolitan school
providing children with a wholesome education. The students are
majority middle class.
Students: This is a year 1 class. There are 14 boys and 10 girls. 2
students identify as Indigenous and one child has a hearing impairment.
Teacher: Mr Peters is a middle aged teacher. He works with a teacheraide two days a week Miss Jensen.
DESCRIPTORS
Technologies: Explore how plants and animals are grown for food,
clothing and shelter and how food is selected and prepared for healthy
eating (ACTDEK003).
Technologies: Explore the characteristics and properties of materials and
components that are used to produce designed solutions (ACTDEK004).
OUTLINE/OBJECTIVES
At The Farm is a mini unit plan that combines an arrangement of
engaging activities and factual information about plants and animals.
Specifically, the purpose of farm animals is explored including the use
for food and clothing. This unit is aimed at a year 1 class and would be
scaffolded for these students.
At the end of this unit students will:
- Recognise individual farm animals
- Understand the purpose of individual farm animals
- Recognise where food comes from
- Explain the process of looking after such animals and plants
- Explore the uses of wool as a material including the properties
- Understand what a farm consists of and how to create one
ASSESSMENT
Students will be given a fill in the blanks farm sheet with a number of
cut out pictures. Students need to put the correct pictures in the correct
chart EG: COW MILK STEAK. This is an interactive assessment piece
that uses Velcro to stick the pictures to the chart.
