Topic: Non-Fiction/Spiders

Materials:
The book Mighty Spiders
Scissors
Pencils
Colored pencils/crayons

Procedures:
Step #1:

Teacher will handout a worksheet where students have to connect the


letters of the alphabet and eventually the picture will come together as
a spider. That will serve as an introduction to the story the Mighty
Spider.

Step #2:
Teacher will introduce the story Mighty Spider and read the story to the
class. Stopping periodically to discuss vocabulary and comprehension
questions to the students.
Step #3:
Teacher will handout an activity worksheet after the teacher finishes
reading. Students will have to cut out their own spider and glue it
together. Students will then color their spider the way they would like
to and in the legs of the spiders they will write facts about spiders.
Step #4
Teacher will have students go up to the front of the class and have
them show their classmates how they decorated their spiders and the
facts that they wrote.
Step #5
Teacher will distribute the homework.
Closure:
Teacher will handout a homework assignment that the kids will have to
do at home. It will be counted as a quiz and the next day the teacher
will review it with the kids.
Assessment:
The teacher will ask the students questions about the book.
Formative:
*Teacher will discuss the book with the students.
*Students will answer questions for homework.
Summative:
*During this unit students will be reading other books and at the end of
the marking period they will take a quiz on all of the books they read.
The quiz will be given to them after we have reviewed the book, most
likely towards the end of the week.
Accommodations:
If there are students with disabilities the activity would be revised
slightly to make it easier for them.
