Lesson 1: Naming Angles
There are 5 types of angles that we need to remember:
RightA right angle is 90 and looks like this:
Straight A straight angle is 180 and looks like this:
Acute An acute angle measures 0-90 and looks like this:
**It is called an aCUTE angle because it is CUTE and tiny**
ObtuseAn obtuse angle measures 90-180 and looks like this:
Jensen 2013

ReflexIs a stretched out angle that measures anywhere from 180-360
Lesson 2: Measuring Angles
How do you measure an angle? Follow these steps: 1. Get out your protractor 2. Use your common sense! What type of angle does it look like? That will help you to decide whether to look at the top set of numbers or the bottom. 3. Line up the middle of your protractor with the vertex (pointy part of the angle where the arms meet) 4. Make sure the line at the bottom of the protractor (Zero degrees) lines up with one of the arms on the angle) 5. Assign the angle a measurement! **To measure a reflex angle** 1. Subtract! 2. A complete circle makes 360 3. 360-130= 230 Example: Measure this angle:

Lesson 3: Drawing Angles
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
Start by drawing a straight line
Use this line as one of the arms of your angle Line up the middle of your protractor to the edge of the line you have drawn Make a mark at the right number Draw a straight line to create the angle DONE!
Example: Draw an 110 angle
To draw a reflex angle, SUBTRACT!
Example: Draw a 280 angle 1. A full circle is 360 2. So, 360-280= 80 Jensen 2013

3. Draw an 80Angle
Lesson 4: Investigating Angles in a triangle
How many degrees in a triangle?
180
The sum of the interior angles in a triangle always add up to 180 ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS!
There are 2 ways to find the missing angles in a triangle
1. Subtract a. 180- 40-70= 70 2. Add, then Subtract a. 40 + 70=110 b. 180 110 = 70
**Hints to look for**
A straight linealways means 180 A square inside the trianglealways means 90
Lesson 5: Investigating Angles in a quadrilateral
What is a quadrilateral? Any four sided object. Could be a diamond, rhombus, parallelogram.. HOW MANY DEGREES IN A QUADRILATERAL 360 ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!! Jensen 2013
Name & Date: __________________
All of the angles inside a quadrilateral should add up to360
There are 2 ways to solve the missing angles in a quadrilateral
1. Subtract a. 360- 105- 80- 75 = 100 2. Add, Then Subtract a. 105 + 80 + 75= 260 b. 360- 260= 100
