History of the Turkey Dance
A long, long time ago, there was a group of turkeys; not just any ordinary turkeys,
but these turkeys had earth powers to blend into their surroundings. They used this power
and a special dance that they loved to do in early morning or during a sunset to hunt for
their prey. This dance was a scare tactic to frighten any animal that they wanted to eat.
The reason they did this ritual at night or early in the morning is because they looked like
the size of elephants. These turkeys were very smart, even smarter than animal that made
them. The first turkey ever recorded that was their learned to hatch eggs anytime it
wanted to. This helped their species grow at a rapid pace. They soon recognized their
knowledge and used their earth powers to create the Caddo tribe. The Caddo people did
not know anything when they were first born. They came into the world struggling, not
knowing how to hunt for themselves, and incapable of farming. One night the turkey
people went out hunting to show the Caddo tribe how too. They searched and searched
and searched and finally found a coyote alone. So they capitalized on this and began to
dance and intimidate their prey. The Caddo people thought this was interesting and
decided to make this task even more fun. They added music and drums to make the
intimidation factor even scarier. Weeks went by and the Caddo people still couldnt hunt
or farm. So to break this ignorant curse the turkeys took out the Caddo people to hunt.
When the Caddo people found their prey they performed the ritual dance and killed their

first prey. That night they all celebrated the first animal to be hunted and ate by the Caddo
people. So, since the Caddo people knew how to hunt the next task was farming. Farming
was big tradition they got from their Southeastern relatives. They were taught how to pick
berries, fish, also plant and harvest crops. Years went by and the turkeys found that the
Caddo people were becoming more equipped with attributes to survive and defeat the
adversity that occurs in the future. When the turkeys realized their stability they knew it
was their time to depart from this world and continue on to the next to fulfill their destiny.
The turkeys and the Caddo people performed one last ritual turkey dance. They
performed this at the exact time that the Caddo people performed their first execution. At
the end of the celebration the turkeys disintegrated and their spirits continued their
destiny without the Caddo people. From that day the Caddo people made an oath that this
tradition shall and will be continued until the end of time.
