    Thefirstpieceofimportantofevidencebroughtupbythisarticleis
    "forexample93%ofthedentist/employerswhorespondedreportedthatthe
    schedulesranmoresmoothly,80%reportedthatanesthesiawasadministered
    topatientsthatneededitonaregularbasis,and75%patientsfeltmore
    comfortabletakinganesthesia."Thisquoteprovesthatanesthesiahelps
    patientsrelaxatthedoctorsofficeandlet'sthedentistdotheirjobmore
    easily.
    Anotherexampleoflogosarethemapsandchartsthathavebeen
    insertedintothearticletoshowwhichstatesallowthedentalhygienistto
    carryoutanesthesiaandtheageofstatutedentalhygienistgivinganesthesia
    ineachstate.Figure1isbasedontheyearof2003,inthatyearlessthan15
    statesdidn'tallowdentalhygienisttogiveanesthesiatopatients.Thisgoesto
    showthatmorestateshavetrustinthehygienisttoadministeranesthesia
    correctandefficiently.Table1isbasedontheyear2003aswell,thebar
    graphshowsthat33statescurrentlyhadstatestatutesthatpermitteddental
    hygieniststoadministerlocalanesthetics.Only12ofthe33statesauthorized
    hygieniststoadministerlocalanesthetics20yearsagoormore.From1972to

    2003theyhada21statejumptoallowinghygienisttocarryoutanesthesia
    responsibilities.
    Nextastudyisusedtoprovethathygienistshouldbeallowedtogive
    theanestheticIn1972,theForsythDentalCenterconducteda25week
    courseofstudytoeducateaselectgroupof10recentdentalhygiene
    graduatesinadvancedskills,suchasthedeliveryoflocal
    anesthetics.Therewasan86%successrateforobtainingadequateblock
    anesthesiaanda97%successrateforinfiltrationanesthesia.Thisstudy
    revealedthat,following17,472administrationsofalocalanesthetic,only
    threecasesofshorttermparesthesiawerereported.Inaddition,the
    supervising
    dentisthadtointerveneonly1%ofthetimeinordertoachieveanacceptable
    levelofanesthesiaforthepatient.Byimplementingthiscasestudyinthe
    articlethewritersaretryingtoshowthereadersstatisticsofhygienist
    administeringanesthesia,theyretryingtoconvincethereaderthatdental
    hygienistshouldbeallowedtoshowcasethisintheirrangeofabilities.The
    dentistonlyhadtointervene1%ofthetimeonthecombinedstudies.More
    successesarereportedthanfailures.
    Inconclusion,themeansofgettingthepointacrossthatdental
    hygienistsshouldbeabletoadministerlocalanestheticarethattheauthors
    usefactualinformationthroughmaps,graphsandotherstudiestopersuade
    thereadersofthatbyallowingdentalhygieniststodeliveranesthesiato
    patientsdomoreharmthangood.MorethanhalfofAmericain2003allowed
    hygienisttodothis,theybelieveditwasintheirscopeofpracticeitis

    believedthatiftheythoughtallowingdentalhygienisttogiveanesthesiawas
    ahighrisk,itwouldhaveneverhavetakenplace.
