Lesson Objectives (i.e. anticipated outcomes of this lesson, in point form beginning with an action verb)
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

Create short videos using the Educreation Ipad application

Research Nutrition and Health online

Promote correct Nutritional behaviours using ICT

Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation:
8 Ipads will be provided to the class for them to work in
pairs, so these will need to be organized and made sure
they each work properly with the intended Educreation
application.
As we are using the computer lab, teachers must make
sure that at least 8 computers are running with internet
availability, incase students require them for research.

Provision for students at educational risk:

As students will be in pairs, its important to make sure
groups are even In their ability and understanding of
the Ipad. Students who are unfamiliar with this
technology will be placed in a pair with fellow students
who are.
Teachers will continue to guide all students through the
process.

Motivation and Introduction:
1) Teachers will place students into pairs or groups of 3 depending on
whether numbers are even or odd. There will be emphasis on
students digital literacy skills, so those who feel they are incompetent
with the Ipad and sourcing information online will be placed in a pair
with a fellow student who feels theyre competent with these skills.
2) The Teacher will provide a brief explanation of the upcoming lesson:
How to use the Educreation application
Acceptable means of research, such as scientific journals or
credible websites
Opportunities for questions and feedback
3) Students will be shown by the teacher how to set up and use the
Educreation application:
Adding photos (saving from online to Ipad)
Trimming
Voice recording
Drawing/ Erasing
Deletion

8 Ipads with the

required application
8 working computers

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions):

Activity 1
4) Teachers will provide students with the research question: Sports
drinks are popular amongst athletes yet have a very high sugar
content. Compare one of your choosing with an advertised healthier
option
5) Provide the students with an example of what is expected in the time
they are given (ie. 1+ slides with voice recording/ text/ animation to
compare a sports drink with an advertised healthier option)
6) Students will begin their research using both their Ipads and/ or
computers in the lab
7) Teachers will go around to each of the groups to check on their
progress whilst also answering questions
8) Continue to give direction on the use of the application if needed

Completed short video

Questions and Feedback

9) Students are given the opportunity to show their work and provide
feedback on the task
10) Teachers will provide feedback on their work, in regards to the
successful use of the application and signs of competent online
research
11) Students can ask questions regarding the application and task

Lesson Closure:(Review lesson objectives with students)

Teachers will briefly go over the objectives of the lesson with the students,
reflecting on their ability to learn and use an application within half an hour,
whilst collaborating with class mates and researching information online.

Transition: (What needs to happen prior to the next lesson?)

N/A
Assessment: (Were the lesson objectives met? How will these be judged?)
Lesson objectives will be judged on the students level of completion for their
short video. A key element to reflect on will be the time limit given to the
students to complete their work.
As the objectives are based around the students being able to source
information online and competently use the application to promote a health
issue, the quality of their video will not be taken into account. So the task will
be deemed a success if each pair is able to produce a short video with clear
evidence of research regarding the comparison of two health drinks and their
sugar content.
