Health and Physical Education
Learning Focus
As students work towards the achievement of Level 2 standards, they participate in a variety of physical
activities in a range of environments (indoor, outdoor and aquatic). They explore different actions of the body
and begin to understand how these actions affect movement efficiency. They practise basic motor skills such
as running, hopping, jumping, skipping, catching, throwing, kicking, rolling, balancing, twisting and turning
and are introduced to more complex skills such as leaping, dodging, the over-arm throw, dribbling and
striking balls, cartwheeling and handstanding.

Standards
Movement and physical activity
At Level 2, students demonstrate basic motor skills and some more complex skills. They combine motor skills
and movement patterns during individual and group activities. They demonstrate control when participating in
locomotor activities requiring change of speed, direction and level. They create and perform simple
rhythmical movement sequences in response to stimuli. They regularly engage in sessions of moderate to
vigorous physical activity and describe the link between physical activity and health. They explain the
contribution rules and procedures make to safe conduct of games and activities. They use equipment and
space safely.

Assessment criteria and method of evaluation

Standards/outcomes
Assessment criteria
Refine throwing skills
Ability to successfully participate in the skill training with
minimal errors and maximum focus.
Demonstrate control in activities Ability to change skills effectively.

Equipment

Here, there and everywhere

The teacher designates four corners of playing field as THERE,
inside the playing area as
EVERYWHERE, and themselves as HERE. Children are sent off
running on the netball court.
The teacher blows whistle and calls out a destination, which
children must get to quickly.

Skill development:

Treasure chest
Students will be allocated a certain number of bean bags and be divided
equally into 4 groups. Each group will have 3 hula hoops set up on a netball
court:

The aim of this game is to get as many bean bags into the hula hoops within
the given time.
To maximize participation rate of students set up numerous hula stations at
once. The star indicates throwing position.
Teacher to assist giving bean bags out and setting up hula hoops.
Teacher should observe and help any students finding the activity
difficult.

How far can you throw?

Students are to pair up and collect a netball from the designated area that the
teacher appoints. Students are to form two lines on the centre court with 1
metre apart.

made.

In the first skill development the student could have hula hoops
closer to them
In the second activity they dont have to take as many steps back

Students stand in a large circle while the teacher is in the middle demonstrating
simple stretches for the children. The teacher can prompt children and asking If
anyone wants to volunteer to be the teacher in the middle.

Teacher effectiveness:
Where the students engaged?
Where the children safe?
Did they understand the motion of throwing?
Did your lesson run smoothly?

Topic: Netball
Focus: Work on basic netball skills, focusing on changing movements, positions, direction and skills
quickly and following commands.
Learning Objectives:
Student Learning Objectives: Continue to develop netball skills in quick movement and dodging and
putting these skills into place in a game
Teacher Learning Objectives: Ensure all students are engaged, motivated and challenged at all times.

Learning Focus
As students work towards the achievement of Level 6 standards in Health and Physical Education, they
refine and expand their range of skills, and perform them with increasing precision, accuracy and control in
more complex movements, sequences and games.
Standards
Movement and physical activity
At Level 6, students perform confidently and efficiently in a range of movement environments (indoor,
outdoor, and aquatic). They refine basic and complex motor skills and apply these skills in increasingly
complex games and activities. They maintain regular participation in moderate to vigorous physical activity
and monitor exercise intensity. They work in a group to create a game, and establish rules and procedures
for its safe conduct.

Two students begin in the middle while all other students stand on the
base line. Students are required to get to the other end of the netball court
before touched by the Octopus in the centre. If they are they are required
to then become an Octopus.

Skill
development

Student practice their throwing skills by passing to the student opposite

them diagonally. Two balls will be operating at once and the style of
throw can be changed according to the teachers whistle and command.

To advance this game an extra ball could be added the game or the pace
could be made faster.
Whos number is it anyway?
For this game students have to be evenly divided into two teams. They are to spread out on either sides of the
centre third. Each student will be given a number and the teacher will call out a number. The aim of the game
is to get the ball first. After getting the ball you are to use your team who are allowed to move along the
outside of the court to try and score a goal.

15 minutes

Remaining in these two teams students will be playing a modified game of netball/rugby. In this game students
will be using the whole court. Students are to pass the ball until they pass the ball over their goaling bass line.
To maximize student participation the teacher could make smaller groups and have 3 smaller games in each
third of the court. Below is an example of a netball court. The red lines represent the goals and where you need
to catch the ball to score.

Depending on any disabilities within the classroom group modifications can be made.
In the first skill development the child could be paired up with a student or teacher who can be trusted
to work well with the student and maximize participation.
In the second skill development depending on what the student can do maybe you dont call their

number and they are participating on the side line and throwing the ball to the person who was called.
In the final skill development the student could help the teacher umpire, be the scorer or even part
take in the game.

Students stand in a large circle and take it in turns to perform a stretch which the rest of the class copy to cool
down. This continues around the circle and stretches can be repeated.

Teacher effectiveness:
Where the students engaged?
Where the children safe?
Did they understand the concept of netball?
Did your lesson run smoothly?
