Ideas for Project

Brief
Vibe productions has commissioned you to create a ten to fifteen minute
documentary for channel four.
The documentary should be based on how the evolution of women and their rights
has changed over time. You must include how the perception of women has
changed over time. You should interview at least three people.
It should be targeted at women as the documentary is about women.
The documentary must be creative and the end product must look visually nice and should be eye
grabbing for the viewer. The deadline for this documentary must be completed by the 10th of June.
The documentary will be aired at 9pm on the 10th of June
Justification
I had two ideas one of them being an idea I came up with Idea one A little bit like Benefits street but
a different street in Wallingford, its in a way the opposite, showing the viewers that not that all
social housing residents live on benefits. Interviewing people from the street on how they got here.
My second idea I came up with was Interview my grandma on life in the sixties and how attitudes
have changed towards women. I want to discuss subjects such as abortion, right to work, freedom to
wear what you want, how women have more opportunity now especially mothers.
I finally decided I would choose idea two, about how times have changed for women over the years.
However, I was really keen on choosing the first idea, thinking it would be different and stand out,
however, I think it would be slightly challenging to film people as it might be a touchy subject for
them to talk about, so going with my second might be slightly easier to film, plus I can add archive
footage and clips to make it stand out. I am going against what my audience said, it was close
between both ideas, but my second idea I thought I could do more with and had more subjects
involved in it to make it more interesting to the viewer.
One of my peers commented that they like the idea of a sixties theme, and also gave me other ideas.
I think my idea will work well because its completely different to what all other of my peers are
doing meaning mine should stand out slightly more. I think my idea is different because I think
people are immediately captured by the topic of feminism, by inserting archive footage and
interviewing my Nan and mum will make it a rather interesting viewing
Idea in detail
For my final major project I have chosen to do documentary, It was a tough choice choosing
between my music video and my other idea for documentary, however, after doing a survey I
decided to go with the idea of filming a documentary on how the evolution and views and of women
and how their freedom and rights have changed through each decade. In my documentary, I will be
filming three to four different people, my Nan being one of them. In my documentary I want to focus
on how women think they were viewed and if they think it was right, I want to mostly interview my
nan because she grew up as a teenager in the sixties were culture shaped the way they grew up
making more independent and helped them speak out more, the sixties is where the underline topic
of my documentary was born. However, I will also be interviewing my mum as she grew up in the
eighties and compare the two perspectives on how the evolution of women has changed.

Audience figures
Channel 4 has a solid reputation for history programmes and real-life
documentaries. It has also courted controversy, for example by broadcasting live the
first public autopsy in the UK for 170 years, which was ground breaking for the
channel to broadcast this.
There is no current documentaries based around mine, the only ones that are broadcast are either
and one off and are forgotten about, however there is a lot of competition between other types of
documentaries which are different topics, for example, according to my research, channel fours
Benefit Street got 4.3 million viewers. The five part series, which focuses on a Birmingham street
that Channel four claims is one of the most dependent on benefits in the country, attracted 4.3
million viewers, a 17.2% share, from 9pm. This is very high for a documentary which shows the
audience are attracted to this topic and the channel its broadcast on. In order to compete with this
documentary, I am going to have to make mine as interesting as possible and make it stand out. I will
need to make it engaging and as interesting as possible.
Along with other popular channel four documentaries such as 24 hours in A&E which is also very
popular on channel four, drawing in an average of 2.3 million viewers per episode. In order to be as
popular, I will need to be as creative as possible in order to meet my target audiences needs.

Contingency Plan
For my contingency plan, I cant see anything going wrong, however, the most thing that might go
wrong would be that the battery on the cameras could possible run out, so in order to avoid this, I
need to make sure the two cameras are fully charged every day in order to avoid rescheduling.
When using the Sofbox lighting, the bulb could go off, to make sure this doesnt happen I will need
to make sure there is some spare one in order for the production to be as good as it can be. The
weather shouldnt affect my production as I am filming inside.

Team meeting
On the 13th of May I will hold a team meeting to make sure each cast and crew know what they are
doing and are still available for the dates of filming shown above.
