Footballs
*Give students first/last 5 minutes of class to change*
Learning Activity #1: Warm Up (5 min)
Do a quick warm up with the class. Have students start in a line and jog down to the
other end. Each time they jog they will do a different exercise (ex. High knees, butt
kicks, cross-overs, etc.) After the warm up is done have students wait in a line.
Learning Activity #2: Practice Throwing a Football (10 min)
Demonstrate the proper way to throw a football. Have students pair up and stand
facing each other. Hand out football to each pair. Have students practice a few throws
between the two of them. Start with short throws and then if they feel confident they
can move further apart.
Learning Activity #3: Jackpot (15 min)
Have each pair find another pair and move to an open space. Explain the rules of
jackpot. One person will act as the thrower. They will throw the ball up in the air and
call out an amount of points. They will also say alive or dead. Alive can be catch even
of a bounce. Dead needs to be catch in the air. When I blow the whistle the person
with the most points becomes the thrower. There is to be no pushing or shoving of
any kind, as well as wrestling for the ball. Have students bring the balls in and head
inside to change. Mention that we will be outside again tomorrow (weather
permitting).
Sponge Activity: If there is time left over play more rounds of jackpot.
