Learning Activities (30 min.) Materials: Footballs *Give students first/last 5 minutes of class to change* Learning Activity #1: Warm Up (5 min) Do a quick warm up with the class. Have students start in a line and jog down to the other end. Each time they jog they will do a different exercise (ex. High knees, butt kicks, cross-overs, etc.) After the warm up is done have students wait in a line. Learning Activity #2: Practice Throwing a Football (10 min) Demonstrate the proper way to throw a football. Have students pair up and stand facing each other. Hand out football to each pair. Have students practice a few throws between the two of them. Start with short throws and then if they feel confident they can move further apart. Learning Activity #3: Jackpot (15 min) Have each pair find another pair and move to an open space. Explain the rules of jackpot. One person will act as the thrower. They will throw the ball up in the air and call out an amount of points. They will also say alive or dead. Alive can be catch even of a bounce. Dead needs to be catch in the air. When I blow the whistle the person with the most points becomes the thrower. There is to be no pushing or shoving of any kind, as well as wrestling for the ball. Have students bring the balls in and head inside to change. Mention that we will be outside again tomorrow (weather permitting). Sponge Activity: If there is time left over play more rounds of jackpot.
