Policy
At my child care facility, sanitary practices are very important for staff. To enforce these sanitary
practices, all staff must wear gloves while preparing food or dealing with medicine, and must wash
their hands every time they enter the facility. Each time their hands become soiled, they should be
washed immediately. After changing every child, staff must wipe down the changing table with
sanitary wipes. If a child spills something on the floor, staff members should wipe it up with the
necessary cleaning supplies. Children will often put objects in their mouth. When this happens, staff
members should remove the object, and it should be wiped down with a sanitary wipe. Before and
after every meal, staff members should wipe the tables down with the sanitizing spray first. After
wiping that off, staff should spray the disinfectant on the entire table and let it sit for 2 minutes.
Now, paraphrase the requirement --- i.e., write it in your own words.
It is basically saying that you must always wash your hands
Now, compare the Handbook citation with the policy you wrote in Policies to Protect Children.
How are they similar? How do they differ?
They are similar because they both mention washing your hands when you leave and enter the enter,
handling food, and diaper changing. They are different because mine doesnt mention anything about
handling cuts or body fluids.
Imagine that you are the director of a child care center. What challenges do you think you might
face in meeting these standards? You will forget to wash your hands all the time.
