AGRICULTURE ASPECT IN DEFORESTATION

Deforestation

Deforestation is the cutting down of trees in Rainforests and the perfect

example of this would be the Amazon Rainforest located in South
America.

Deforestation has caused about of the world's tropical rainforests to be

cleared for the uses of agriculture and industry as well as land usage.

Yearly about 18 million acres of forest are lost due to deforestation.

Every minute the size of 36 foot ball fields is cut down in rainforests
around the world.

Deforestation leads to many problems such as Global warming and the

endangerment of animal and plant species.

Deforestation occurs due to big companies cutting down trees for their
own benefit and not caring about the effects afterwards as money is their
important thing.

Animal ranching

60% of the land where the trees are cut down is used for cattle
ranching in the Amazon Rainforest.

The trees are burnt down so that it is a quick process and less
costly process and then cattle farms are built over it for the food
industry.

Animal ranching in these sizes increase the CO2 emissions highly

as the animals release high amounts of methane gas which then
travels into the atmosphere and increases the green house
effect.

What is the Green House Effect

The green house effect is a natural occurrence which is when the

suns heat gets trapped in the Earth to stay and heat up the
planet.

The use of fossil fuels and the releasing of methane gas from
animals has enhanced the green house effect highly and
increasing the average temperatures by 0.74C

These cause effects such as change in weather as recently there

have been more reports of storms, floods, hurricanes and wild
fires.

Global warming ties in with this as well and if we continue like

this there will be an increase in the sea level and coastal areas of
land will be lost.

Farming

As there are Natives that live in the Rain forest, they grow their
own food on that soil and they do not use the land properly.

The rainforst land can become unfertile quickly after the trees
are cut down and farming can be quite difficult if the crops are
not changed each harvest to increase fertility.

As the farmers are uneducated they only get one harvest till the
land is unfertile and then they get rid of the land and move on to
the next piece of land that they deforest for their use for farming
and then the cycle continues.

This is another major effect of Deforestation.

Economy

The big corporations do not care about what is going on in the

forests and what destruction they are bringing to them such as
destroying large masses of land as well as destroying species of
plants and animals only for them to build cattle ranches and earn
money from it.

Some companies get their deforested land from illegal

deforestation done by locals and other organizations.

My view about this

I think that the areas should be used for crop growing rather than
cattle ranching as it is less cost effective, it causes less co2
emissions by a long shot and it is more effective as crops can
feed more people than animals can
