Mr. Schaefer plans the year so students will meet state standards and be ready for
external assessments and aligns the plan with the FCPS Program of Studies and
strategic goals. He plans units backwards, with well-thought-out big ideas, essential
questions, knowledge, and skill goals. He designs lessons focused on measureable
outcomes aligned with unit goals.
Mr. Schaefer displays knowledge and use of resources available through the school, the
division, and in some organizations external to the school. Mr. Schaefer is new to FCPS
and is learning about the various resources available to teachers.

Mr. Schaefer regularly utilizes eCART/HORIZON and class-based formative


assessments to monitor student achievement. Mr. Schaefer diagnoses student
knowledge and skills and makes adjustments based on the data. He requires students
to set ambitious goals, continuously self-assess, and take responsibility for improving
performance. He frequently checks for understanding and gives students helpful
informatron if they seem confused.
Mr. Schaefer consistently has students summarize and internalize what they learn and
apply it to real-life situations. He relentlessly follows up with struggling students with
personal attention to reach proficiency. He collaborates with colleagues to use data
from formative assessments to adjust teaching, re-teach, and follow-up with failing
students.

Mr. Schaefer is a consummate professional who readily takes on leadership roles within the school.
He is an asset to our school, and we are fortunate to have him as a member of our staff. He is a self-reflective teacher
who consistently evaluates his teaching approach and instructional delivery in order to provide students with the best
education possible.
Mr. Schaefer most recently lead a Boys Running Club and also a Basketball class as part of our PTO Afterschool clubs.
Parents and students both commented regarding hls level of professionalism and work with the students.
He regularly communicates with his parents and students, which has allowed for a collaborative feel to his classroom
and allowed for measureable student progress. He works closely with the special education teacher to provide a
differentiated instructional approach for his students.
It has been a pleasure having you at Colvin Run Elementary, and lwish you the best of luck in the future.
