Chapter 4

Part Modeling-CSW A Preparations

Objectives:
In this chapter you will ieam:
The level of expertise required for 20 CAD design in eng ineering
How to utilize sketch tools, mirror, draft for part modeli ng
How to model 3D parts using Extrusion. Revolved . features tools as well as
using Reference Planes
How to solve part modeli ng problems required for Certified SolidWorks
Associate CSWA
INTRODUCTION

This goal of th is chapter is to assist readers to achieve the level of expertise in 20 CAD
design as it applies to engineering and to hel p them pass the Certified SolidWorks
Associate (CSWA) which is synonymous with competence in $olidWorks at foundation
and apprentice level of 20 CAD design and engineering practices and principles. A
number of tutorials are presented in this chapter to achieve thi s goal.

Pl ane. (see Figure 4-57)
4. Create the Extrude Base feature. Select Through All for End Condition in
Direction 1. Extrude depth = 1 in. Caution: Extrude direction is downward.
Extrude I is the Base feature.

5. Create Planel. Select the mid-points of the top face of Extrude I to add a
construction line. Pl anel is defined using the construction line and the top face of
Extrudel, with an Angle = 48-degrees. (see Fi gure 4-59)

A Comprehensi\e Introduction to SolidWorks 2013

Summary
This chapter discusses part modeling at the level of CSWA and most of the examples are
similar to the materials covered in the CSWA examinations. Students preparing for th is
exam will find this chapter helpful. Instructors should consider covering this chapter
before movi ng to the next chapter which pitches at a higher level.
Exercises
I. Referring to the part in Tutorial 4-2 (see Figure PI ), create a mirror of the part about

the right vertical face. Apply the same material and compute the material properties of
the part.

Figure PI
2. Referring to the part in Tutorial 4-3A (see Figure 1'2), change the angle of the vertical
feature from 30-deg to 90-deg. Apply the same material and compute the material
properties of the part.

Figure P2
3. Referring to the part in Tutorial 4-5A (see Fig ure P3), create a mirror of the part about
the right vertical face. Apply the same material and compute the material properties of
the part.
