Lesson Phase
Orientation /Introduction
How will you motivate and
explain the learning intention
of this lesson?
What kinds of questions
might you ask?
This should link to prior
learning experiences.

I will motivate students by accessing students prior knowledge

before explaining the comprehension questions. This including
what the story is about.
I will ask questions such as :
- What is this chapter about?
- What type of text is the book? Fiction or Non Fiction?
- What do they predict will happen in the next chapter?

Teaching strategies/
Learning Activities
What strategies will the
students be engaged in to
achieve the learning
outcomes?
How will you cater for a
diversity of learning needs?
How will you manage
transitions between various
lesson phases/activities?
What kinds of questions might
you ask?
What formative and/or
summative assessment
strategies will be used in this
lesson?

Students will be engaged in a variety of ways this includes a class

discussion at the beginning to ask students what they know about
the chapter that has been read. Students will then be then given
the opportunity to create reading comprehension cubes and roll
them with a partner to ask questions such as what is the main
event in the chapter read. Students will also be engaged by writing
down their answer in their writing book. Therefore catering to
different student learning abilities.
I will cater for diverse learners: This is shown by catering to
different learning styles, including students who are linguistic who
can participate in the class discussion. This lesson also caters to
students who are Kinesthetic as students are able to create
comprehension cubes, this also extends to visual learners who are
able to use the cube pictures to help them understand what is
meant by each comprehension question.
Summative assessment:
During the class discussion this will guide me as a teacher to what
students are understanding about comprehension.
Formative assessment:
The formative assessment will be from the students answers they
write down after rolling the cube.

Conclusion /Closure
How will you capture the
main ideas of the lesson?

To close this lesson, we will have a class discussion, in which I will

ask students what they think of each question was from the cube.

Achieving well

Communication good,

the lesson

Progressing
Further questions, and
summative assessment of
lesson is needed throughout
the lesson.
Eg) ask questions, as
students progress through
the activity.

Conclusion of lesson; transition

to next lesson/session

progressing

Needed more of a closure to

help students formulate what
they have understood.
Eg) Asking students what
they have written about the
genre of the novel, the
characters.

Overall quality of the lesson

Primary Generic Lesson Planner

I was overall pleased that

students understood what
was required of them to do
within the task. I was also
pleased with the level

engagement. However in the

future I should ensure the
lesson stays within the
DAILY 3 time frame of 15
20 minutes.

Reflection
What do you think was successful about this lesson? Why?
Students engagement with the predictions and questions about what they understood about the
novel.
Students engagement and motivation to complete the task.
My explanation of the task.

What could have been improved? What strategies might you use in the future based on
your learning from this lesson?
I need to improve on ensuring I close the lesson by formulating questions to students about what
they have learnt during the lesson. Therefore in the future I will ensure I leave 5- 10 minutes at the
end of the lesson to have a class discussion on their understandings and to clarify any confusion.
