RCMP lay new fraud charges in

Fort McMurray evacuee

investigation
Woman and man now both accused of impersonating wildfire evacuees in
Claresholm, Alta.

Article Summary
A couple residing in Claresholm Alberta have been charged with fraud
for lying to residents that they had evacuated from the fires in Fort
McMurray. Darryl Rondeau, 45, pleaded guilty to five counts of fraud
under $5 000. Girlfriend Jaime Lynn Cox, 39, is charged with the same
conviction. When they first arrived to the town, they were welcomed
with free meals, clothing, and shelter. Eventually police got suspicious
of their story, saying it didnt add up. One red flag was that Rondeau
was not registered with the Red Cross. They later found out that the
couple was originally from British Columbia, and had never lived in Fort
McMurray. Darryl Rondeau has already been convicted, and more
charges are to come, while his girlfriend is still to appear in court on
June 1st.
