We are going to make inquiries about how can we use our five senses in daily lives. We will do group
discussions illustrating the materials we learned from the previous lesson, listing the activities we can
do to explore the use of our five senses.
A continuation of previous lesson/activity
According to previous lesson, we understand the importance of five senses to our everyday lives.
There is a need for this lesson to promote childrens imagination and creativity to think about what
types of activities we can go to explore the appropriate ways to use the senses based on their
knowledge.
The length of this activity is 30 minutes.
After group discussion, students can name at least five activities demonstrating the appropriate use of
our five senses.
This activity will enable the children to increase competences in various areas aligning with the
following standards:
New York State Common Core Standards
CCSS.PRE-K.DOMAIN 4.Part A.1. Demonstrate that they are motivated to communicate.
CCSS.PRE-K.DOMAIN 4. Part B.RSL.10. Actively engage in group reading activities with

purpose and understanding.

Anticipatory Set (Connection/Motivation):
Begin by a read aloud of the book, My Five Senses, reviewing the materials we talked about in the
previous lesson. I will also ask students illustrate the new things they learned from the book in this
second reading. Later I will introduce our lesson for today is learning and discussing about the ways
we can use our senses.
Instruction/Mini Lesson:
I going to start a read aloud of the book, Cold, Crunchy, Colorful Using Our Senses. It is a
great non-fiction book demonstrates how we use our five senses to explore the world around
us. This book involves pictures on real objects so that students can relate their learning and
experience to the actual world.
During the read aloud, I will ask students questions to identify the concept and encourage
them to think about other ways to use our senses. These questions will include:
What do you see on this page?
Why we can only use this sense for this type of activities?
Can you think of another way to use our sense of seeing?
Can you think of another way to use our sense of hearing?
Can you think of another way to use our sense of taste?
Can you think of another way to use our sense of touch?
Can you think of another way to use our sense of smell?

Each student are encourage to use their own words to express their opinions and answers.
After the read aloud, I will let my students to separate into three groups and have a group
discussion responding to the questions I asked.
Independent Practice:
After group discussion, I will ask everyone to reunion and each student should name at least five other
activities that we can do to explore the use of our five senses.
Closure (sharing/reflection, next steps):
Once all students finished their presentations, I will give positive feedback and thank for their
participations.
Method of assessing childrens
understanding of
lesson/activity/objective(s)

Pre-assessment

Assessment of Student Learning

Before this lesson, I would

ensure every student has basic
knowledge about our theme,
five senses. They would ask to
talk about their knowledge and
experience about it.

Plans for differentiated

instruction/instructional
modifications

Supporting children with

identified delays or disabilities

When students start their

presentation after group
discussion, I will evaluate
their understanding about
connecting our theme to
the real world and see
whether or not they have
reached my objective.
Supporting English Language Learners

For students with delay, they are

going to working in small
groups with teacher or assistant
teacher during group discussion.
The teachers are going to using
positive reinforcement to
encourage their participation
throughout the activity.

Assessment of Childrens
Language Learning
I am going to review the
vocabulary words learned
with students from two
books. I will confirm that
every student has a chance to
answer my questions and
present their thoughts.

Read the books twice to English Language Learners with more

realistic pictures and ensure they are comfortable with the
vocabulary before chart creating. They can use their native
language to present their thoughts and they are allowed to name
only one or few other activities.

Follow up/Extension activities

Develop act out activities to motivate students to find out more other activities that we can explore
about our five senses.

Any additional information that

would be helpful for the
observer to know
Observer feedback on the lesson plan, including commendations and recommendations for improving aspects of the learning activity
