Notes on Unicellular and Multicellular

Organisms
Uni = One
This is a unicycle. It has one wheel.

A unicellular organism is an
organism made up of one cell.
Here is an example:

Multi = Many
This is a woman multitasking. She
is doing many tasks at one time.

A cell that is multicellular is a cell

made up of many cells. Here is an
example:

You are made up of many cells!

One of the greatest differences between a unicellular organism and a

multicellular organism is the way in which it can react with the outside world.
A unicellular organism in small and therefore it can easily access the outside
world. All parts of its perimeter touches the outside world. But a
multicellular organism is large and not all of its cells can reach the outside
world. So, it must have a transport system. This is a system that can
transport nutrients and waste back and forth out of and back in the cell.
