Understanding the Immune System Activities

Part A.
Pretend that you are an invading pathogen and attack an imaginary immune
system. Choose a type of pathogen (bacteria, virus, etc) and explain your reasoning
of why you chose it. Detail how you enter the body and how you are able to travel
throughout it. Also detail what parts of the body you attack, what parts of the
immune system you attack and how that aids in your overall infection. If you want,
describe how your pathogen looks or what type of cell it wants to infect, you could
even create symptoms for your pathogen. Be creative!
Part B.
After reviewing the cells of the immune system, take some time to understand the
organs of the immune system and their impact on the immune response. Research
the following organs/tissues: thymus, bone marrow, spleen, lymph nodes and liver.
Record their abilities and how they work in synch with the white blood cells, in the
overall immune response
Part C.
There is more to the immune system than all of the microbiological action that
happens within your body. Many things happen to your body after the infection in
order to maintain long-term immunity, in order to keep the body protected from
future intruders. In order to gain a greater understanding of immunity, research at
least three of the following terms: vaccine, vaccination, herd immunity, passive
immunity and active immunity. Define these terms but also explain how they
protect your body from future pathological attacks.
