1. Childs Gender:
Male
2. Childs Name:
Mickey the 57th
3. Childs parents:
Alex Fryar(mom) & Evan Tamburrino(dad)
2. Karyotype: Describe what information you can gain from your childs karyotype.
1. What sex chromosomes does your child have shown on their karyotype?
My child has the male sex chromosomes XY shown on their karyotype.
2. How many chromosomes does your child have in each cell?
My child has 47 chromosomes in each cell.
3. Does your child have a chromosomal abnormality? If so, what abnormality?
Yes, my child has Down syndrome.
4. Describe how it appears on the karyotype.
On the karyotype it appears as an extra chromosome in the 21 st pair.
5. What are the symptoms of the disorder?
The external symptoms of the disorder is usually a flat face, small broad
nose, abnormally shaped ears, a large tongue, and upward slanting eyes. The
internal symptoms of down syndrome are usually a high risk of developing
respiratory infections, blockages in the digestive tract, leukemia, heart
defects, hearing loss, hypothyroidism, and some abnormalities in different
organs.
6. What is the prognosis for your baby with this disorder?
The prognosis for my baby is to live past the age of 50 with the correct
treatment.
7. What treatments and/or assistance would be necessary?
The treatments for a child with Down syndrome vary by the health of the
child. A child with this genetic disorder has a treatment made to fit to their
physical and intellectual needs.
3. Pedigree: What gene disorder is indicated by your family history? Attach the pedigree
that you created based on your family history. Dont forget that if there are known
carriers, you should shade them!
1. Based on your pedigree draw Punnett squares to predict the probability that your
child will also have the allelic disorder. Make sure that you state the probability
after completing the Punnett Squares!
2. What are the signs and symptoms of this disorder?
The symptoms of the sickle cell disease are usually episodes of pain, frequent
infections, anemia, hand-foot syndrome, delayed growth, and vision
problems. The signs of a sickle cell disease are usually a fever, pale skin, pale
nailbeds, abdominal swelling, and a yellow tint to their skin.
3. What treatments and/or assistance would be necessary for a child with this
disorder?
There are many different treatments and medications for sickle cell anemia.
One possible cure for Sickle cell anemia is a bone marrow transplant, but a
bone marrow transplant has a lot of risks associated with it and it is really

hard to find a donor. Medications for sickle cell can help to reduce pain and
the complications of sickle cell. The medications can also include blood
transfusions and supplemental oxygen. Antibiotics can also be used to
prevent infections.

4. Blood Types: Write out all possible Punnett Square(s) to predict your babys blood type.
Explain why multiple squares were or were not necessary.
5. Baby Lab
1. Choose 2 traits that are inherited by basic autosomal dominance or recessiveness.
For each trait, give the babys genotype and state whether it is homozygous
dominant, heterozygous, or homozygous recessive
Two traits that are inherited by basic autosomal dominance or
recessiveness are face shape and chin size. The babys genotype for
State the babys phenotype
2. Choose 1 trait that is inherited by incomplete dominance.
Explain why this is considered to be incomplete dominance.
State the babys genotype and phenotype in your explanation
3. Choose 1 trait that in polygenic .
Explain what polygenic means
State your babys genotype and phenotype in your explanation
6. List 2 Correctly-cited resources from which you found the information about your genetic
disorders in MLA format.
