Irregular verbs (cele cu 3 forme, vezi tabelul) folosim a 2-a


forma, cea de trecut.
Ex: brake BROKE -broken

Regular verbs ( cele care nu apar in tabel) formeaz trecutul


adaugnd ed / -d (dac verbul se termin n e)
Cazul 2:

Ex: play- played, like- liked, behaved, boiled, borrowed, apologized,


concentrated, enjoyed, filled, failed etc.

OBS. Cnd nu tii dac verbul e irregular sau regular, n funcie de litera cu
care ncepe verbul, caui n tabel, n tabel verbele sunt n ordine alfabetic, i
dac nu l gseti acolo nseamn ca e verb care formeaz trecutul cu ed,
deci e regular verb.

A. Translate and Turn the following sentences into the past tense:
1. We like our holiday in Scotland.
2. He walks all day without feeling tired.
3. They often climb the big mountain.
4. He answers every question well.
5. We bathe in the sea every day.
6. The teacher always counts the students at the beginning of the lesson.
7. Lizzie always cooks the dinner well.
8. Hob generally burns the potatoes when he cooks them.
9. Pedro looks handsome, he always dresses well.
10. My sister lives in a quiet little place in Norway.
11. Before the lesson the teacher opens the window and closes the door.
12. Jans good work always Mr. Priestley very much.
13. They play football every day of their holidays.
14. At every lesson the teacher questions the class on their homework.
15. For my holidays I generally stay at the seaside.
16. Susan works in the house all day, and studies Spanish every evening.

B. Write the following in the past tense and then translate the text:
Helen points to the tree, and Tom looks up there. He sees Helens cat high up in the tree.
It cant get down and is looking as unhappy as Helen is. Tom goes over the gardens wall

and climbs up the tree and carries the cat down safely. Helen is so pleased to get her cat
again that she puts her arms round Toms neck and gives him a kiss. This pleases Tom
very much. This is certainly what he likes. He wants the cat to climb up the tree every
day. So that night he waits until it is dark and then he climbs the tree. He carries a
hammer and nails and a fish in his hand. He knows that cats like fish so he nails the fish
to the tree. If the cat goes up the tree next day, he hopes to get another kiss.
C. Make these sentences interrogative:
1. This work seemed easy.
2. He dried his hands carefully,
3. The cat liked fish.
4. That sounded funny.
5. The students went to the airport yesterday.
6. He saw the airplanes flying over London.
7. He could see the airplane in the sky.
8. The students were in Mr. Priestleys study.
