1. In each assignment in this class please focus on What Problems You Want to
Solve and How? This will make you a more efficient and better professional.
The purpose of this assignment is to determine a method to provide a green
sustainable product using methods identified in the textbook that are related to the
four identified sister companies. This is completed through analysis and review of
the companies and input from the textbook content.
2. Imagine, that you are setting up your own company, the 5th company. Document in
about 1 page the following: What is the new green quality-focused civil engineering,
or construction engineering, architectural, IT/IS, management product / process /
service / or project management your company plans to develop?
Earlsfort Enterprises (EarlE) will be the leader in full service green watercraft
systems procurement for marinas and resorts. EearlE focuses on finding the
correct type of boat for the location, to prevent minimal impact on the local marine
life, to provide high quality marine systems and an innovative training system to
teach user how to use the products safety and provide as small as an impact to the
local area.
EarlE does this by partnering with the local marina/resort to understand what they
need and what the local marine environment consist of it. Then EarlE partners with
Regulator to find the correct ship for the clients needs, Mercury Marine to make sure
the correct engine is chosen, Process Heating to make sure the most efficient
manufacturing process has been completed and RawHyde to train the users on how
to use the systems correctly and how to protect the local marine life.
EarEs innovative and revolutionary systems provide creative solutions that meet the
customers needs and help improve and protect the local marine life.
3. Document in a few (8-10) sentences: What will your company work on, and how will
it collaborate with the other 4 companies (in the eLearning Pack)? (Even if you find
these collab. companies not to fit; that is done on purpose to trigger your innovative
thoughts!)
The first step will be to review what the user needs are for the Marina/Resort.
Whether that be providing a sightseeing mission, fun booze cruises and/or deep sea
fishing. Next, an assessment of the local waterways is conducted to understand the
marine life and how the user needs will interact. Then Regulator and Mercury
Marine are consulted to determine the perfect ship and/or crafts for all the needs of
the locals. The chosen craft will depend on the depth of the local water and the type
of activities to be performed. The type of engine will have similar restrictions.

Additionally, Process Heating is consulted to see how the overall manufacturing plan
will function once complete. Lastly, RawHyde is brought in to provide training
support to teach the users how to operate the craft and also, most importantly, how
to operate the craft without causing damage to the local marine life.
4. Describe all above with a quality project management
and Sustainable Green focus. You can find good ideas for these if you read the first
Chapter of the eBook, as well as Appendix A. These can trigger good ideas to
innovate! Take each principle from the eBook Chapter and address it explicitely how
you will deal with it in your (i.e. in the 5th) company? Pls. don't try to write a novel.
This is a technical document. Please follow this structure I give you in the syllabus. It
makes it easier for everybody. Address each important aspect point by-point. Don't
forget the Quality Project Management focus!
EarlE will produce valuable solutions four our customers by using smart and high
quality processes to ensure that the results meet the customers needs. EarlE
focuses on
Time Management
Resource Management
Budget Controls
EarlE completes these tasks via a multitude of project management options. One
includes PRINCE-2 (Projects in Controlled Environments). This method focuses on
each process and the its respective inputs and outputs to arrive at the required end
state. With our top experience we can create a product suitable for any need.
EarlE also believes in doing it right the first time and preventing all possible
mistakes. This is completed by implementing various Six Sigma tools. This allows
EarlE to define the process of our clients, optimize them and provide the best
outcome, every time.
5. You have to spell out the TQM focus and Sustainable Green Quality aspects of
your company! (Many students forget this !) You can find here more
on Green Engineering:http://www.cimwareukandusa.com/All-Green/RankyGreenEngineering.html
The main focus of Earlsfort Enterprises will be creating a Green Product Lifecycle
Management framework that can be applied for many different needs and locations.
This G-PLCM framework will use the following avenues to provide the results to
meet the user needs:
-International Hazardous Material Standards (e.g. REACH, ROHS3 (before required
compliance date!)

-Incorporating Green Manufacturing

-Green customer requirements
-Eco-friendly design
-Bio-degradable materials
-Recycling concerns
-Rapid prototyping
-Green supply chain
-Green service supplies
6. Besides the business plan in this assignment, please see the videos in your
eLearning Pack and write a short 200-250 word, or so long summary on each
of the videos (in the 'V' marked DVD in your eLearning Packs), focusing on TQM
and Sustainable Green aspects: For each video you should furthermore answer the
following two questions in 3-4 sentences each: What quality project management
lessons have I learned from the video, or video clip, or slide show video, that I could
implement in my 5th company? and What Sustainable and Green Quality aspects
did I find useful for my 5th company? (Note, that in Appendix B you'll see a lot about
pollution issues...)
Internet Enabled Gadgets: Integrated devices that connect to everything. Head
based camera can always provide back immediate feedback on how construction
workers are performing. Can also keep feedback on how the health of workers are
during the day. Portable computers can provide drawings and plans to assist with
construction.
These connected technologies can help create a connected workforce. They can
have all of the information they need to work on a small iPad and not require any
paper, which is more green and sustainable. Can also improve worker safety by
keeping track of their medical conditions in hot locations.
Caribbean Construction: Very small streets can make it difficult to get materials to
the actual construction site. Dangerous roads can make it even more difficult to get
the workers and materials to the site. Bad weather can influence the ability to
complete the required work.
From this I have learned that the location of the marina/resort needs to be taken into
account for the project plan. How to get materials to the site and how the local
weather could influence the project.

European Construction: This takes place in very tight locations with many people
walking around and traffic getting very close. Many other historic buildings are right
next to every building, and those cannot be damaged. In very tight and congested
areas, traffic cannot be impeded by construction.
The safety of people walking around needs to be taken into account, as it would be
terrible if a pedestrian was hurt during construction. There are also very tight
spaces, so we cannot plan to bring in large pieces of equipment or large materials,
as they will not fit.
Ford Manufacturing: Buildings were built for our people and with their processes in
mind. Very strong training program for employees to ensure they know what they
are doing. Robotics automation how make the process much more streamlined and
prevent errors. Can ramp up production if need be, the plant is flexible.
Keep the workers in mind when designing the workplace so they are safe and they
enjoy being there. Make sure the people are competent and they know what they
are doing, and make the workplace flexible.
Kuala Lumpur Construction: Foreign Languages can make it hard to
communicate. Local infrastructure may not be that great. Local weather is very hot,
and there may not be much AC offered. Also, the higher the building is, the more
difficult to clean the windows. Need to keep the window washers safe as well.
Small spaces also make it hard to bring in large trucks.
Not all of the local populations will have the same construction skills. Local weather
can have a great influence on any project plan. Small spaces will always make it
hard to complete projects.
New York Construction: Location on water could make it easier to bring in
materials by sea, vice land. There is also pleasure and non-commercial traffic in sea
lanes. The sea also has its own set of traffic rules and metrological requirements.
If brining in materials by sea, will need to do a lot of pre-planning to make sure all
the requirements are set up, like tug boats and harbor pilots. Will also need to
ensure the safety of others in the waterways and keep track of Coast Guard rules
and tides tables.
7. There is one more thing I would like to ask you to do for explaining your company's
(i.e. the 5th company's) Sustainable Green focus. Please go on the web, Google
YouTube, and then in the field at the top type in 'Paul Ranky' (this is a search
field and you'll find it easily). It will show you over 120+ links to short video clips I put
up on YouTube. The goal of this part of the assignment is for you to find any 6 short
clips on Paul Ranky, YouTube that deal with marine life, (i.e. diving) and use those
clips to convince your virtual board of directors and shareholders, that your 5th
company MUST NOT POLLUTE the world, in ANY ways, ANY time... it MUST BE

SUSTAINABLE AND GREEN; not just sustainable... but green too... these video
clips show pristine marine eco-systems that must not be destroyed by greed,
incompetence, or human error... Thanks; this will put your company on the map! Well
done!To document this, please write a specific statement about your company, how
you will prevent any toxic waste or pollution to be generated and released into any
eco-system (land, sea, river, or air) in about 50-250 words. Please make sure you
reference the 6 videos you have chosen from Paul Ranky, YouTube by putting in
their individual filenames, and/or with hyperlinks to YouTube if you have a web-page
at this stage already for your assignment. (If you don't have a web-page yet, please
add the hyperlinks to the Paul Ranky, YouTube dive video clips you have selected
later, but definitely in Assignment 5.) Thanks!
See About Page.
8. As you will see tere are many useful resources, that I provide you in this course.
These are all integrated with your eLearn Pack eBook, full length videos,
collaborative company brochures, etc., as well as this syllabus with many web links.
This integrated approach is novel and very useful for you to learn how to manage
projects professionally, and avoid project failures. One of these readings starts here:
I have found this resource to be helpful: please read this and comment on it in
about 50-250 words: How will your 5th company use the ideas presented to
avoid project failuers? This is the link: http://www.attask.com/wpcontent/uploads/2013/07/work_is_hell_brochure.pdf ; Also another useful link
here: http://www.attask.com/slay-dragon-enterprise-work ; Pls. note, that links might
change on the web beyond our control...
The Mission of Earlsfort Enterprises is to safeguard marine life and keep it pristine
for years to come.
EarlE understands that project plans and deadlines do not complete projects, but
people complete projects. Therefore, we focus on having a strong engaged
workforce who cares about the mission of the company and care about completing
the project. EarlEs workforce looks forward to coming to work every day because
they know that every day they will have a chance to do something important. We
dont see completing a project as just a deadline to meet, but a new way to protect
the environment to achieve and a customers needs met. Additionally, EarlE has a
culture of being the best, and completing our projects EarlE. We strive to do better
every day and challenge each other to do the same.
9. Last, but not least do not forget your social networking content at the end of
this assignment, as part of it. (In every assignment this is an executive summary,
with a hyperlink to the rest of the material you have documented, based on
discussions with your classmates on articles I have sent you by email, all on your
web site, NOT in a separate file attached to an email! This part of the assignment
reflects your active participation in the class based on discussions of the articles I
am emailing you every week or so... Note, that some of the stories will NOT be

exactly in your business or scope of interest, nevertheless they'll be extremely useful

to learn from, to explore and see what others are doing... and why. The important
aspect here is that you should make up your own mind and judge the situations as
best as you can.) NOTE, that I'll be sending out links to several articles, sometimes
every week, sometimes none. Please select any 3 of these for every assignment
in any mix. That is three of your choice per assignment (although I'll be sending out
more than three for you to enjoy!)
Please see the social networking section of the website.
10. Please note, that if anything is missing of the above, I cannot accept it. As stated
earlier, to make sure, that you won't miss anything, just copy and paste the above
listed requirements into your assignment answer section and start to work on each
aspect... really easy... like a checklist in project management... Since this is your
own project plan, you cannot submit any other assignments until you don't
have a grade for Assignment 0. This might delay other assignments, and therefore
you'll loose the rework option... Therefore PLEASE follow the above list carefully and
contribute to each section as well as you can. Thanks! (Your success is my success
too!)
My Grade: All requirements of Assignment Zero have been identified, reviewed,
analyzed and completed with adequate content and assessment. Therefore, I give
myself a grade of 20/20.
