Induction training
Induction training is training provided to new employees by the employer
in order to assist in adjustment to their new job tasks and to help them to
become familiar with their new work environment and the people who
work around them. Therefore, as a Marketing Assistant, this type of
training is essential as it helps to gather more skills and a better
knowledge of a specific job role.
Performance appraisal
A PA also referred to as a performance review or a performance
evaluation is a method by which the job performance of an employee is
documented and evaluated. This is because PA is a part of career
development and it consists of regular reviews by the manager of where
the employee works, and he/she checks the employee performance. This
happens once an employee starts a new job and it occurs every 6 to 12
months with their boss. It could last up to two hours talking about what
youre doing that is good and what you need to improve on. Performing
good will make your wages rise, however performing not so good makes
your wage stay the same, for example for years.
On-the-job training
On-the-job training is training that takes place while employees are
actually working. Therefore, skills can be gained while trainees are
carrying out their jobs and this benefits both employees and the business.
Employees learn in the real work environment and they gain experience,
dealing with challenges and so on that they will meet during a normal
working day.
Off-the-job training
Off-the-job training is provided away from the workplace. This can be at a
training centre or at a college or even at a companys own premises.
Therefore, this type of training is useful for developing transferable skills
that can be used in many different parts of the business and it can be
used to train employees in the use of new equipment and so on.
Transferable skills as a marketing assistant could be speaking effectively,
motivating others, creating ideas, setting goals, analysing and so on
Graduate training programmes

mainly large employers and GTP can go on for a period of 3 months to 3

years. If a person who is taking the GTP and if they have been successful
in it, then it can lead to a permanent position of their job role and often a
professional qualification.
Management education and training
Management education is the process of planning, organising, directing,
controlling and evaluating to achieve set objectives of an institution
through coordinated use of human and material resources. Therefore,
management training is the process of training staff to be managers, by
making them study problems and to work out different solutions. This can
be related to a Marketing Assistant, if I want to have more skills and
knowledge of my career path, I will have to have some sort of
management education and training for Marketing.
Coaching
Coaching is a development in which a person called a coach supports a
worker in achieving specific personal or professional goal. Therefore,
coaching can be an informal relationship between two people, for example
a senior manager and their employees, as they have more experience and
expertise to offer advice and guidance.
Projects
Projects have many meanings, but in this case, projects can be a piece of
planned work or an activity that is finished over a period of time, and it is
intended to achieve a particular purpose. It could also consist of some
type of training for employees at a workplace, and it helps them to do
their specific job role at the best of their ability.
Secondments
Secondments are a period of time when an employee is sent to work
somewhere else temporarily, and this could be because it can help to
increase the number of workers there, to replace a worker or to exchange
experiences and skills. Therefore, in other words, it will help employees to
gather more skills and a better experience of their work, and in my case
as a Marketing Assistant.

Mentoring involves the use of skills of questioning, listening, clarifying and

reframing, working with some sort of mentor/coach. Therefore, at the
workplace, it is a relationship in which a more experienced colleague uses
his or her greater knowledge and understanding of the work or workplace
to support the development of an inexperienced staff.
Shadowing
Shadowing is a type of job shadowing, and it is an educational program
where college students or any other adults can learn about a particular
job role to see if it suits them. Therefore, staff who are experienced at it
helps students of what it is like to perform a certain type of work. For
example, as a Marketing Assistant, some work that they do is arranging
promotional events, communicating with clients and assisting the
manager in writing reports and analysing data.
E-learning
E-learning is an electronic learning and it is accessed by using a computer,
and it can help with your course at school/college and it can be part of a
full business training course. Therefore, there are many different activities
for people to do, and it can also help people when they start a new job,
for example my career is to become a Marketing expert, and using Elearning can help me about how to reach to my career goal. A website
with information about e-learning courses is www.e-learningcentre.co.uk
Vocational and professional courses
Vocational and professional courses are education and it prepares people
to work in a trade, as a technician, or in support roles in professions such
as engineering, nursing or law. Vocational education is sometimes
referred to as career education or technical education. This type of
education can table place at university or by a local community college
and many more.
Job rotation
Job rotation is a designed technique in which employees are moved
between two or more jobs, for example a Marketing Assistant doing a
different job at the same organisation or somewhere else. It is done to
expose the employees to different experiences, and helps them to access
a wider variety of skills to the success of their job satisfaction.
Retraining

Retraining is similar to job rotation, but it is a process or an activity of

teaching people/employees new skills, so that they can do a different job
if they need to. Therefore, staff at many organisations will be offered
retraining and it can be done by a retraining program/scheme.
Continuing professional development
CPD is a process of tracking and documenting the skills, knowledge and
experience those employees and others gain both formally and informally
as they work. Therefore, it is a record of employees experience learns and
then applies, and it is a portfolio which is documented of your own
development as a professional. Finally, as a Marketing Assistant, key
qualification that is vital is numeracy, as a lot of marketing revolves
around numbers, and gathering all the knowledge and experience is
useful.
Lifelong learning
Lifelong learning is basically the use of both formal and informal learning
opportunities throughout peoples lives, in order to enhance the
continuous development and improvement of the knowledge and skills
needed for employment. For example, as a Marketing Assistant you will
need to study some courses, such as, Professional Certificate in
Marketing, CAM Diploma in Digital Marketing or Chartered Postgraduate
Diploma in Marketing, and this helps to improve knowledge and skills
needed for certain employment.
