Amber Canns latest project has clearly been inspired the work of Baileys, looking at the contrast and

the colour of her images, the work was

clearly inspired by Davids work on his project stardust, which features Kate Moss, David Auburn, the images show a good contrast of black and
white, the main focus in the images is there eyes, which is portrayed in Ambers work. In this shoot, Ambers aimed to achieve elements of Baileys
images and incorporate them into her own.
The photographer clearly set out to capture images relating to Baileys, but with her own take on it, by this, taking elements of Baileys work then
adding it to hers but making it slightly different eg body posture, facial expressions and clothing. She had two ideas, the first one being capturing
local tourist images of Henley and the second being Fine art, the first one proved unsuccessful as she wasnt happy with the images she took, the
second one being Fine art, after taking a practise shoot, Amber realised it was more of the idea she wanted to go for, as she has previous
experience in taking portraiture photography, which proved to be successful so went with that idea.
When setting up the studio lighting she wanted to cooperate the lighting like Baileys images into this, she did this by using only one light which
gave a good shadow and depth of field into the image, making the subject stand out more. She had the camera on the shutter speed of one
hundred and twenty five which let just the amount of light in she needed for the image to look good, Baileys image of Moss from his stardust
exhibition stood out to me, the depth of field of the image, her posture, the colour and the texture of the image, very smooth but yet stands out
hugely, she wanted to incorporate elements of his work into my first shoot.
My first image captured in the studio of Holly, Amber wanted to be in colour, she used Photoshop to edit it and turned the saturation on the image
down to tone out the colours more, basically making them slightly more suttle, her eyes are the most striking part of the image, the viewer would
look straight at her eyes then slowly examine the image more, which she feels like this links with Baileys work, for example, the image of Moss you
are drawn to her eyes, then the hair, Amber has incorporated this into her image but with a slight twist, she wanted to change her body posture to
facing forward, not sideways, she did this because she felt it has more of a professional look to it, with her hand on her lips. She feels the viewers
are drawn to her body posture, relaxed but it looks like the image is telling a story through her body language and facial expression. Cann has
highlighted her hair on Photoshop to make it look slightly shinier and for it to make the main focus of the image, like Moss. Amber wanted to
create a slight shadow and darkness to her left eye, by doing this she positioned the light to the right of the studio, making sure it wasnt too bright
or to dark, the lighting helped create the texture and tone she wanted to give the image, If the image was all lit up it wouldnt look as good, by
giving it more shadow, it gives the image more depth and character. She wanted to keep the colour of the image bleak, she wanted to
experiment with it being in colour first before testing out black and white like Baileys image of Moss.
Amber used a shallow depth of field was capturing her model in the studio, meaning the aperture of the camera was on 2.8 whilst the shutter
speed was on 125, this gave the image the right amount of lighting to look professional as possible.
Ambers images are clearly well composed as you can see from the posture of the model and the lighting along with the edit on Photoshop.
Ambers target audience are clearly aimed at an upper class social group, Fine art is mostly considered with the higher social group, this was also
her aim to capture fine images and have them aimed at this group, upper class social group occupation.
Group A such as high paid occupations such as doctors, scientist and dentists, higher managerial, administrative or professional. This type of
category would typically be reading the newspapers and higher class magazines such as vogue or Vanity Fair or the Financial Times, this
magazines are classed as being classier. The Richer people would rather be educated than entertained. programmes Group A would typically
view is programmes that are often in the evening and will probably watch programmes that are more intellectual as they have a higher paid job
meaning there jobs are more, they would watch programmes that are more educational and that stand out, for example panorama, and news
related programmes such as news night and occasional a few drama series on of them being doctor Foster. Framed by a mane of professionally
tousled hair and accompanied by the sharp shadows of chiselled cheekbones. A half-open mouth reveals a glimpse of statement teeth, she feels
her image is a clear example of Fine art photography.
Bailey is perhaps best known for his black and white portraits, taken against a simple white background, made throughout his career. Some of the
most memorable are of actors and musicians, some taken early in their careers that became their defining image. Two sitters Bailey particularly
admires are the actors Jack Nicholson and Johnny Depp. The publication of David Baileys Box of Pin-Ups in 1965 came about after Bailey had
increasingly turned his attention to portraiture in the previous year. The portfolio contains thirty-six portraits of contemporary cultural figures from
the worlds of fashion, pop and members of the Ad Lib club in London. They were mostly Baileys friends, and although some went on to achieve
even greater fame, such as John Lennon and Paul McCartney, David Hockney and Terence Stamp, others have since fallen into relative
obscurity. Ambers work compared to Baileys doesnt show an iconic figure but the way it is captures and the elements of Baileys work is clearly in
a way entwined into hers, as you can see from the high contrast image further on in her work, it shows her model sat down in a studio, she used
Photoshop to make it black and white and made he contrast higher in order for it to look slightly like Baileys image of Moss.
The majority of the feedback Amber got was very positive, one being Really good studio work, she thinks the lighting works well but you could
make it slightly lighter or increase the contrast, you can really see the inspiration and, Nice picture, you can for sure see elements of Baileys work
within hers, Lighting could go up a bit maybe along with Nice lighting, decent placement and composition, image looks slightly faded, could
increase contrast. reminds me of baileys picture of Kate Moss and some constructive criticism from another peer Pretty good, I like the look and
the lightingTry having a smaller gap between head and the top of the frame.
