Interventional imaging includes both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as

angiography, peripheral stenting, peripheral implants and interventions, cardiac
catheterization, electrophysiology, cardiac stenting, coronary implants, and other
image-guided interventional procedures. Compared to general diagnostic procedures, interventional imaging has unique requirements for infection control, materials and supply distribution, and controlled circulation, and patient safety. A single
interventional procedure suite may be developed contiguous with the surgical suite,
and shared by all interventionalists, or separate suites may be dedicated for various
specialists.
Outpatients who have undergone interventional procedures must recover for two to
fours hours after the procedures depending on where the catheter is inserted
(groin, arm, or neck) before they are ready to return home. A patient preparation
and outpatient recovery area is typically part of the interventional imaging suite,
although some healthcare organizations may recover outpatients on an inpatient
unit or co-locate the interventional imaging suite with the surgery suite another special procedure area so that outpatient recovery space can be shared.
General guidelines for various types of procedures are included below. The higher
ranges assume extended hours of operation and/or a smaller facility.

Note: Department gross square feet/meters (DGSF/DGSM) represents the "footprint" of a department or functional
component and includes the net square feet/meters (NSF/NSM) of the individual rooms as well as the space occupied by
internal circulation corridors, walls/partitions, and minor utility shafts; DGSF excludes common areas such as shared public
corridors and lobbies, elevator banks, stairwells, major mechanical spaces, and the space occupied by the building's
exterior wall.
