Title of Assignment: Educational Philosophy
Description of Work: This assignment was based on my personal feelings towards teaching. When I become a teacher what type of teacher will I become? What will I base my teaching off of? As teachers a lot of our teaching comes from personal experience. Theres a reason we teach, and a lot of time its based from our personal experiences in the educational system. Analysis of Work: This covers this standard because as a class we had a discussion before we wrote this paper. The question was, what makes you want to become a teacher? Teaching isnt an easy job, it comes with a lot of baggage and sometimes our own. As an African-American student I suffered a lot at the hands of our Public school system, so I wrote my educational philosophy on my experience. Reflection: This paper taught me that teaching is personal. Our own experiences are the reason we teach in the first place. The hardest thing about teaching from personal experiences is trying not to add our biases to the students.
Graduates will demonstrate the
importance of the role of reflection and self-assessment on continual learning in the profession of teaching.
Title of Assignment: Lesson Plan Reflection
Description of Work: For a full semester I got the chance to work with 5th graders on their end of term project. For our classroom work we were required to come prepared with lesson plans in regards to their assignments. Every Monday we were to take those lesson plans and reflect on what we thought worked and didnt worked. What we needed to work on and what parts of our lesson plan could be changed or would could
stay the same.
Analysis: This work demonstrates mastery of this standard because I had to sit down and selfreflect on the work I previously did in the classroom. Each lesson plan that I created was continually made easier by the feedback and the criticism that I gave myself as I continued to try to improve student education each lesson. Reflection: Moving forward as I transition into the classroom setting, I learned that its okay to change things up. Self-reflection is there so we can tell ourselves that something didnt work and we need to change it. So now as I make lesson plans, I will have the confidence to change them if need be. Graduates will discuss how theories impact practice and defend pedagogical decisions with professional literature. Graduates will understand the historical context of schooling in our country and how current policies impact students, teachers and schools. Graduates will understand the pathway into the teaching profession and the ethical, legal and professional obligations.
Title of Assignment: Why Teach
Description of Work: For this assignment I was required to figure out why I wanted to be a teacher. What drew me into this career and how my past reflections and encounters with past educational facilities impacted my decision to teach. Analysis: This work demonstrates mastery if thus standard because I had to dig deep into my heart and figure out why I wanted to be a teacher. Before we wrote this paper we had to do a lot of research on what teaching is, the polices around teaching, and as teachers what we are responsible for when it comes to our students. After we did our research we then wrote a paper
on Why we would Teach.
Reflection: This project taught me that a great
teacher comes with a lot of passion. The reason a lot of people teach is to change the way things are in the system, but I also learned thats where a lot of biases come from and we have to be careful of that. Teaching also comes with a lot of responsibility. As teachers we are in charge of these students and making sure they are successful and safe. Graduates will be able to use the tools of technology effectively in order to support dynamic student learning.
Title of Assignment: ECIPS and BOTS
Description of Assignment: For this assignment I was required to go online and use Pinterest to find classroom activities that cover several different standards for K-5th graders Analysis of Assignment: This assignment fulfills this standard because I was required to use the technology in order to find activities that would bring a different view into the classroom than standardized ways we use the Core Curriculum. Instead of paper and pen assignments, these activities touched on all different styles of learning. Reflection: This assignment taught me the powerful way to use technology in the classrooms. As the world is ever revolving, we have to do our best to keep up with times and keep the students involved. Technology is a perfect way to do both.
Graduates will understand how to work
with families and communities of all cultures and socioeconomic classes to build bridges to support student success at high levels.
Title of Assignment: Observation and Reflection
Description of Assignment: For this assignment I was required to have a full 60 hours of observation of a classroom. I chose a classroom of diversity with students coming from all different backgrounds. I was required to observe the students and then write a detailed reflection including; student-teacher interactions,
behavioral problems, student-student interactions
etc. Analysis: This assignment covers this standard because for this assignment I was required to watch how teachers interacted with students from all different backgrounds, and write a deep reflection what that meant. These teachers that I observed had different ways of getting information across to a wide variety of students and parents. Reflection: Teaching isnt cut and dry. As much as students have to adapt, so do teachers. Every student is different, every parent is different, our job is to make sure we support each and every student and parent in as many ways as possible. Making sure each student is successful
