Ammar as I have been observing your play at An-Nur, it is great to see how
you are developing your fine motor skills and interacting with your friends. You have
great focusing skills when you find something that interests you!
Last week on a sunny winter day it was beautiful to watch how you were studying
flowers and plants for such a long time, you didnt let anything steer you focus out of
them. I think those yellow flowers had tiny flower pods that you were picking expertly
with your little fingers. You were very gentle in your study and exploration you didnt
really hurt the plant as I could have imagined heaps of other children do, well done
Ammar!
With your play Ammar you were learning how to control your body and fine motor
skills, manipulative skills with co-ordination and balance. While exploring your
environment you are starting to make sense of the larger world, you are actively
using your body and all of your senses to do this.
Other moment that comes to my mind happened couple of days ago. I was
observing Ammar play with a friend; you were rolling trucks down the ramp as we
had long play outside during the afternoon. It was great to see you play with Theo;
you were both communicating with your ideas on what was the best way to roll the
trucks and were so immersed in this activity. You were taking turns while playing and
offering trucks to your friend without any conflicts.
With a play like this Ammar you are learning turn taking and offering, non verbal
ways to communicate imaginative ideas, by using signing and body language.
Ammar, you are also learning language skills by stating and asking others about
their intentions.
Ideas and suggestions for Ammar.
An-Nur centre could make visits to the green yard area exploring and studying
nature and plants that can be found from the premises. Children could be given task
of finding little pieces that they find interesting and we could have discussion of
them. Leaves and rocks could be painted and glittered using glue. We could also
make new imaginative creatures by gluing leaves on paper. We could find
stone/pebble collection from the yard and make trails and formations on the ground.
With acitivity like this Ammar learns to contribute to the common game by using his
imagination to find interesting pieces that can then be later used in centre childrens
play.
As An-Nur centre has limited funds/toys we should encourage children by reminding
ourselves that that learning tools and opportunities are everywhere it doesnt need to
be something expensive to catch childs imagination and interest.
