Dear Parents/Guardians,
On Thursday, June 9th, we became aware of a threat made against the school. An Assistant Principal
was reviewing the results of an anonymous student survey, and discovered that a student threatened to
shoot a firearm at school before the end of June. While we do not know at this point if the threat is
credible, the safety and security of students and staff is our top priority.

In consultation with the Calgary Police Service and CBE Corporate Security, we immediately increased
security measures at the school. Steps taken include hiring a private security guard, increasing police
presence, locking all exterior doors except the main entrance to ensure there is limited and monitored
access to the building, and reviewing our security protocols with staff. We have been assured by
Calgary Police that a School Resource Officer will be on site every day. In addition, a security guard
will be on site every day. These measures will be in place until the end of the month.

In the meantime, our exam schedule and learning opportunities will continue as usual while the school
continues to investigate the source of the threat. We are working with the administrator of the survey
and CBEs IT department to try to identify the student, whether the threat was written with intent to
carry it out, or was simply an ill-conceived prank.

Please take time to talk to your children, encourage them to stay vigilant and aware of what is being
said and what is written on their friends blogs, Facebook or emails and report anything unusual to
myself or directly to the Calgary Police. Its not unusual to receive threats of this nature at a high
school, but its important that we respond appropriately to ensure we continue to provide a safe
learning environment.
