A news program reports current events
and scenarios locally or internationally,
News is typically reported in a series of
individual stories that are presented by
one or more anchors, these programs
may also show information on national
travel, weather and stock exchange.

Documentary
A documentary is a broad term to describe
a non-fiction movie that in some way
"documents" or captures reality.
Documentaries are often used to reveal an
unusual, interesting or unknown angle.
Topics are limited only by one's

Most docudramas include a narrative structure which can be open or closed
in a linear or nonlinear form depending on the depth of the chosen story.
It can use a variety of camera shots and can include re-enacted/archived
footage.
Mise en scene is key because if it is a historical based film it will be
expected to resemble the historical time it has chosen
Voice overs can be used and sound effects linking to the story e.g. a quote
taken from some who experienced the story may be played for witness
points.
They intend to keep the main aspect the centre of attention whether its a
character or incident so editing will aim to highlight this.

This historical docudrama created by the bbc


shows a summarised account of the rise and fall of
the roman empire in a closed linear form.
It uses a wide range of camera angles such as an
birds eye establishing shots to show the vast size
of the roman empire.(00:03)
They use voice overs to narrate the story of the
roman rise(00:04:) and also identify key dates
leaders(01:46) and battles.
Throughout this series the usage of mise en scene
is key as the whole production is a re-enactment of
real events this would include the building of sets
props and costumes.
Leaders are the main focus point e.g. Cesar who is
glorified throughout the piece.

Docusoap
Docusoaps come in a large variety, some
focus on day-to-day business dealings of the
subjects others are more about the personal
relationships and the potential for drama
among the public. (Accessed: 13 April 2016).
Docusoaps usualy have more than one
character with a series of problems they have
to face commonly found with day to day life.
Camera shots will be simplistic and similar
throughout as the main focus will be those in
the film. Sound effects will link to the scenes
and actions of characters. The mise en scene
will be associated with the characters and
their usual lifestyle.

Made in Chelsea is a docusaop which shows the
day to day life of young people living in the well
of side of London. The camera shots used are
limited to just shots focusing on characters
engaging. Sound effects will be natural sounds
recorded when filming the characters the lighting
is used to make the characters look at their best
however it is made to look as natural as possible.
The mise on scene for this clip seems as it is set
in their usual surroundings with expensive

Infotainment is a type of media that tries to

Reality tv is an unscripted example which
shows humorous day to day incidents, these
programs will aim to relate to their audience
or show the un seen side to celebrities
The camera work and sound effects will be
limited to a minimal amount as the main focus
are the characters. Set at their homes the
mise en scene will be natural settings with no
props or sets costumes may be manipulated
however should link to their usual outfits.

Makeover
Makeover reality television series are television series
which focus on makeovers.
They were first featured in talk shows however have
developed into their own genre. (Makeover reality

The code and conventions of these would include
normal people with some kind of trauma or problem
in their life which effects other aspects linked to their
lives e.g. their house garden clothing or their choice
in material goods they own.
In return the show will transform one of these issues
to help ease the trauma they are facing
The show will have a well liked presenter and will
usually have some kind of deadline and the person
they are helping will be unaware until the project is

The film review is a small section on the bbc


news which showcases new uprising and
popular films they aim to show a wide variety
of films and also review them.
It follows the conventions of most review
programs by having a film expert who

addressing issues and complaints they have

It also follows the usual conventions of the

The Michael McIntyre talk show


The bbc owned talk show is presented to a well UK
comedian who invites successful celebraties onto
his show to promote their new projects and talk
about personal things linking to their career.
The gests are given drinks and are exposed to a
less serious approach and are expected to open up
to Michael.
It follows conventions of a talk show as it has a
