Routine turnaround time (TATs) for all analysis is seven days

If emergency TAT is required e.g., in the case of an emergency discharge, the ability to report is controlled by the time
required to complete sample preparation and analysis. There are certain steps that prevent next day reporting: for BOD,
cBOD, total coliform, fecal coliform & E.Coli by MPN there is a five day incubation, for trout bioassay there is a 96 hour
exposure time, and for total phosphorous and total kjeldahl nitrogen there is a one day digestion prior to analysis. There is a
100% surcharge for any work that requires emergency TATs. When samples are submitted for Emergency TATs the Laboratory
completes the analysis as quickly as possible. Please call the Laboratory when work will be submitted for emergency TATs.

Hold time is the maximum time samples should be held prior to being analyzed. Hold times are calculated using the time
sampled on the submission form to the time the analysis begins. To help the lab meet hold times, please submit samples
within 24 hours of sampling. In order to ensure hold time for BOD analysis is met, please do not sample on a Monday to
submit on a Tuesday, as this analysis is not started on Tuesday.

Please ensure that a completed submission form is included with the samples. The email address of the Environmental
Officer should be added if you want automatic reporting to the Province.

A. Routine one litre white plastic bottles no preservative. Fill bottle to 95% capacity, keep cool. Following analysis is
taken from this bottle: BOD, cBOD, TSS, conductivity and pH.
B. Nutrients 250 mL glass bottle with sulfuric acid preservation: Fill bottle to 95% capacity, add preservative, and keep
cool. Following analysis is taken from this bottle: ammonia, total phosphorous, TKN, and nitrates-nitrites and COD.
C. Microbiological analysis 125ml sterile bottle with sodium thiosulfate preservative. Fill to 100 ml mark, and keep cool.
Following analysis is taken from this bottle: total coliform, fecal coliform, and E.coli by MPN.
D. Oil and Grease 500-ml clear glass bottle with hydrochloric acid preservative in bottle. Fill bottle to 95% capacity, and
keep cool.
E. Trout P/F Bioassay twenty litres of sample collected in a five gallon pail that has a plastic liner insert. Keep cool.
