Joint issue of AN-NOOR

A reasonable excuse for the delay
To our esteemed readers:
This issue of the monthly AN-NOOR is a
joint issue of May-2016 & June-2016. There was
much workload in the month of April-2016 & May2016 at Daarul-Uloom Raheemiyyah Bandipora. All
tiers of the administration and all subordinae
sections of the Raheemiyyah administration were
extremely busy with preparations for the three big
events.
(1) Preparations for 3-day conference of
hundreds of scholars from the country and from
abroad.
(2) Preparations for the Annual Convocation
of the Raheemiyyah varsity.

E DITORIAL

Preparation for
Ramadhaan
BY: Hazrat Maulaana Ilyaas Patel Sahib
Before any event, preparations are made.
In proportion to the event are the preparations.
If it is a small event, then perhaps the
preparations will commence a few days before
and it will involve a few individuals. If it is a
worldwide
event,
then
preparations
will
commence weeks, rather months in advance
and will involve many people.
Likewise, we will witness, if Allah Taala
wills, such a grand, magnificent event that
preparations have commenced for it an entire
year in advance. Jannah is prepared and
beautified by Allah Taala the entire year for the
moment when its doors will be flung open on the
first night of Ramazaan. Such a great month
that leave alone man, the entire creation of
Allah Taala is mobilised for it. The fish in the
ocean make dua for the fasting person (Musnad
Ahmad). The angels in the heaven make dua for
their forgiveness.
Precisely for this reason, Hazrat Nabi
Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) declared this

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

month as `azeem (great) mubaarak (blessed)

(Ibnu Khuzaymah). It is a month in which Allah
Taala engulfs His creation in His Rahmah. The
excellence of this month has been encapsulated
in the following words of Hazrat Rasulullah
(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as reported by Abu
Masood (radiyallahu `anhu): Had my Ummah
only knew the true value of Ramazaan, they
would have desired that the entire year be
Ramazaan (Ibn Khuzaymah).
Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
would make dua to be allowed to witness the
month of Ramazaan from the time the crescent
of Rajab would be sighted.
"O Allah! Bless us in Rajab and
Sha`baan and allow us to witness the
month of Ramazaan" (Tabarani).
Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
would also make the following dua:
"O Allah! Safeguard me for the month
of Ramazaan and guard the month of
Ramazaan for me (that I attain the
maximum blessings of this month)"
(Tabarani).
Imaam Suyuti (Rahimahullah), a renowned
Shafi` scholar narrates in Ad Durrul Manthoor
from Mu`alla bin Fadhl: The pious people of the

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

past would begin making dua to witness the

month of Ramazaan six months in advance!

What can we do in preparation for

Ramazaan?
Firstly, fulfil all obligations that are
outstanding towards people whether it be of a
monetary nature or anything else.
Secondly, try and programme ourselves in
such a way that we have minimum work in
Ramazaan and maximum time to dedicate to
Allah Taala.
Thirdly,
draw
up
for
ourselves
a
programme, deciding how we will utilise our
time fruitfully during the Mubarak month of
mercy.
Lastly, try and increase our time spent in
the pleasure of Allah Taala so that we are ready
to receive this great month.
May Allah Taala grant us the best of this
month and shower us with his mercy and
forgiveness. Aameen.

Object of Ramazaan
On a sweltering hot day your throat has
become parched. You are in the privacy of your

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

home and the refreshingly cool water is within

hand's reach. You desire to drink it, but you do
not. Why? Simply because you are fasting and
while fasting you cannot eat and drink. If
somebody prompts you to nevertheless drink it
and says: "Nobody is watching," you will
immediately rebuke him with the words: "But
Allah is watching!"

Allah Ta'ala is Watching!

Subhanallah! Allah Ta'ala is watching.
Allahu Akbar! Allah Ta'ala is All Hearing, All
Knowing, He is Omnipresent. He sees and knows
when we cheat while fasting, thus we resist all
temptations of food, drink and lawful conjugal
relations from dawn to dusk. We have learnt the
lesson of Taqwa. We have learnt that lesson
which the fasting was meant to teach us. Allah
Ta'ala is watching! Yes, Allah Ta'ala is Watching!
Every time there is an urge to eat or drink while
fasting, the voice from within cries out: "Allah
Ta'ala is watching!" Dozens of times daily for an
entire month this reality is reaffirmed. Allah
Ta'ala is watching. So deeply is it embedded in
the heart that by the time Ramazaan is over, a
person becomes conscious of Allah Ta'ala to
such an extent that he is now guided by an inner

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

force that propels him in the direction of

righteousness and turns him away from sin.

Taqwa
The fasts of Ramazaan were prescribed for
the purpose and object of attaining Taqwa. This
is clearly declared in the Qur'an-al-Kareem.
Taqwa simply is to obey the commands of Allah
Ta'ala and refrain from all sin, the increased
rewards for lbaadah (worship) in Ramazaan and
all the blessings of this great month should be
considered as the bonus. The object is Taqwa. If
one performs an abundance of Salaah,
completes the recitation of the Holy Qur'an
thirty times and engages in many other acts of
lbaadah, but fails to give up sins - one has failed
to achieve the object and purpose of Ramazaan.
One has failed to firmly embed the reality of
Taqwa in the heart, the Taqwa that cries out
"Allah Is watching" whenever one contemplates
committing any transgression.

Temptation
The dictates of Taqwa are not restricted to
abstaining from drinking, gambling, adultery,
transacting in interest and other such vices.

10

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

Indeed Taqwa demands that while abstaining

from all the above vices one also observes
Taqwa in one's business. When the temptation
to cheat the customer beckons, or when one is
tempted to buy stolen goods, or to indulge in
fraud, at that time also the heart should cry out
"Allah is watching" and it should restrain one
from the sin.

Rights
Similarly, Taqwa demands the fulfillment
of the rights of the husband/wife, It also
demands the joining of family ties. It demands
respect for the elders and kindness for the
young. Taqwa entails, among other aspects,
being honest and clear in all monetary dealings
and social interactions. Hence when there is a
wedding or funeral, or at the time of distributing
the inheritance of the deceased, the same level
of Allah consciousness must be displayed as was
apparent when refraining from drinking the cold
water while fasting.

Purdah
Likewise,
violated, does
watching"? Or
something on

when the laws of purdah are

the heart cry out "Allah is
when one intends to watch
TV., which will most definitely

11

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

involve one in zina of the eyes and ears, does

one hear the voice from within: "Allah is
watching," as a result of which one refrains from
that sin? The same pertains to the Shari' aspects
of appearance and clothing. How often have we
done things to appease and please even the
enemies of Allah Ta'ala and Hazrat Nabi Akram
(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)? How often have we
abandoned the dictates of Taqwa in order to
earn a few coppers? Now is the time to sincerely
repent. It is the time to say "Allah is watching"
and to do everything to please Him. It is a time
to acquire Taqwa.

Abstain From Sin

This then is the object of Ramazaan. This
will only be achieved if we conduct ourselves in
this great month with Taqwa. Or else the object
of Ramazaan will be defeated. Hence Hazrat
Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported
to have said: "He who does not forsake lying
and other futile actions, Allah Ta'ala has no need
for him to give up his food and drink." Thus
together with fasting, performing Salaah,
reading the Holy Qur'an, serving the cause of
Deen, etc,, one must totally abstain from every
sin in the month of Ramazaan and adorn oneself

12

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

with Taqwa. Insha-Allah this will then carry one

along for the rest of the eleven months to
abstain from all sins.
May Allah Ta'ala enable us to make this
Ramazaan a month where we will truly attain
Taqwa. Aameen.

Sehri
Partaking of sehri is a sunnah of Hazrat
Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and a
means of attaining great barakah and rewards.
Hazrath Anas (radhiyallahu anhu) reports that
Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:
Partake of sehri for verily in sehri is much
barakah (blessings) (Sahih Bukhari). In another
narration Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam) has stressed the partaking of sehri by
proclaiming: Sehri is entirely barakah. Hence
do not omit it even if you just take a sip of
water, for verily Allah Taala and His angels send
blessings upon those who partake of sehri
(Targheeb).

The Recitation of the Holy Quran

In the month of Ramazaan, the recitation
of the Quran Shareef has a very special
position. Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi

13

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

Wasallam)

would also revise the entire Holy

Quran with Jibraeel (Alaihis Salaam) in the month
of Ramazaan. Thus one should try to recite the
entire Holy Quran as many times as possible
during this mubaarak month.
Tilaawat (recitation) of the Quran Shareef
is a great Ibaadah in itself. Hazrat Rasulullah
(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has greatly exhorted us
to recite the Quran Shareef. Numerous virtues
have been promised for this ibaadah. Hazrat
Aaishah (Radhiyallahu Anha) says that Hazrat
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:
Recitation of the Holy Quran in Salaah is more
rewarding than the recitation outside Salaah.
Recitation outside Salaah is preferable to
tasbeeh and takbir (repeating the words of
praise for Allah). Tasbeeh is superior to
sadaqah, sadaqah to fasting and fasting is
protection against the fire (Bayhaqi).
In another narration it is reported that
Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said:
Reciting the Holy Quran from memory carries
one thousand degrees of thawaab while reading
Quran Shareef from the book increases it upto
two thousand degrees.

The Revealed Word

It

must

nevertheless

be

clearly

14

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

understood that the reward for recitation will

only be received for reciting the Quran Shareef
the original revealed word in the Arabic
language. These rewards cannot be attained by
reading a translation. Reciting the Quran
Shareef and understanding its meaning from
authentic commentaries are two distinct aspects.
The rewards of tilaawat will be attained only by
reciting the actual words that were revealed
even if one does not understand Arabic. To
believe that there is no benefit in reciting the
Quran Shareef if one does not understand
Arabic is indeed a severe deprivation.

Night Before Eid

Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam)
has said; The night of Eidul Fitr, the night that is
called Laylatul Jaaizah (The night of prize
giving), comes along. On the morning of Eid,
Allah Taala sends down the Malaaikah, to all the
lands of the earth, where they stand at the
entrance of roads, calling out with a voice that is
heard by all except man and jinn: O Ummah of
Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), come out
of your houses towards a Lord that is noble and
gracious, who grants much and pardons the big
sins.

15

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

When they go towards the places for their

Eid Salaah, Allah Taala says to the Malaaikah:
What is the reward of that worker who has
completed his work? The Malaaikah reply: O
Lord and master, it is only right that he should
receive his reward in full. Allah Taala then
says:
I call you to witness, O My Malaaikah,
that for their having fasted during the month of
Ramazaan, and for their having stood before Me
in prayer by night, I have granted to them as
reward My pleasure and have granted them
forgiveness. O My servants ask now of Me, for I
swear by My honour and My greatness, that
whatsoever you shall beg of Me this day in this
gathering of yours for the needs of the
Hereafter, I shall grant you, and whatsoever you
shall ask for your worldly needs, I shall grant it.
I swear by My honour that, as long as you shall
obey My commands, I shall cover up your faults.
By My Honour and My Greatness do I swear that
I shall never disgrace you together with the
sinful people and disbelievers. Go now from
here, you are forgiven. You have pleased Me and
I am pleased with you.
The Malaaikah on seeing this great reward
given by Allah Taala upon the Ummah of Hazrat
Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) on the day

16

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

of Eidul Fitr become greatly pleased and happy.

(As reported in Targheeb.)

Purpose of Ramazaan
Ramazaan is the month to boost our
spiritual batteries of Imaan to a peak. Hence if
in this very month we shirk in the fulfillment of
our ibaadah or fail to refrain from all sins, we
would be defeating the main purpose of this
mubarak month the inculcating of Taqwa
(fear of Allah) in our lives.
Therefore, it is important that we mentally
prepare ourselves for Ramazaan even before it
comes. For this we should immediately
commence a thorough reading of the Virtues of
Ramazaan
by
Shaikhul
Hadith
Maulana
Muhammad Zakariyya Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi).
Find a suitable time and read it to the entire
family. Then perhaps the true spirit of Ramazaan
will be kindled in the entire family. Perhaps it
will then be a Ramazaan that will be a turning
point in our lives. After Ramazaan has gone, the
punctuality upon Salaah, recitation of the Holy
Quran, etc., and most importantly the refraining
from sins will still be a part of our lives.
May Allah Taala enable us to earn
His love and assist us in earning the maximum
benefit in this Mubarak month. Aameen.

TAFSEER
(Commentary of the Holy Quran)
By: Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)

SURAH AL-BAQARAH
Note: This part of Tafseer is the remaining portion of
Surah Al-Baqarah Tafseer and hence connected with
the previous chapter of Surah Al-Baqarah Tafseer.

Moreover,

certain

scholars

have

seen

an

argument in favour of the possibility of transsubstantiation through magic in a saying of Kab alAhbar, reported by Imam Maalik in his Muwatta on
the authority of Qaqa Ibn Haakim: Were it not for
these phrases which I recite regularly, the Jews
would have changed me into a donkey. A donkey
is, no doubt, a usual metaphor for a fool. But it is
not proper to turn away, unnecessarily, from the
literal meaning to a metaphorical one. So, the
sentence means just what it says that if the
recitation of the phrases had not protected him, the
Jewish sorcerers would have changed him into a
donkey; secondly, the phrases he used to recite had
the property of making the magic of the sorcerers
lose its efficacy. On being asked what these phrases
were, the scholar Kab al-Ahbar taught his listeners
the following words of prayer:

18

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

l^ ^ j] ] l^e ] o e n p] n] ^e ]
^ k ^ ^ ov] ] ^^e q ^ e ^rm oj ]

I seek the protection of Allah The Great, greater than
whom there is none; and I seek protection of the
perfect words of Allah which no man, virtuous of
wicked, can ever transcend; and I seek the protection
of all the Beautiful Names of Allah, those of them
which I know and those which I do not know, from
the evil of everything which Allah has created, to
which He has given existence, and which He has
spread (over the earth or the universe).

To sum up, all the three forms of magic are

possible, and can manifest themselves in actual fact.

Miracles
Now, let us turn to another important aspect
of the question. Through Prophets and Saints certain
events come into manifestation which normally and
habitually never happen, and are hence designated
as Kharq al-Adah (Contrary to the habitual). The
Islamic term for the miracles of Prophets is
Mujizaat, and for those of saints, Karamaat. The
effects produced by such miracles are in appearance
sometimes similar to those produced by magic. This
external resemblance leads some ignorant people to
confuse the one with the other, and they begin to
have a reverence for magicians which is totally out
of place. So, one must understand the difference
between the two clearly.

19

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

Editorial note on Mujizah or Miracle:

For all the unusual events and unprecedented happenings
the English language has but one word, Miracle which makes it
impossible for the reader in that language to mark the subtle
difference in various forms of miracles. Briefly, therefore, the
different forms of miracles with their distinct objections are
explained here. It is hoped that this will help the readers have a
clearer conception of Mujizah.
These terms are used in Arabic language to define and
differentiate the unprecedented happenings and here each of them is
explained, so as to clearly differentiate them. Qualitatively, there is,
apparently no difference in all of them.
Mujizah is the unusual event which occurs at the hands of
the Prophet. It is purely an act of Allah. A Prophets own Volition
has no part in the working of it. For those who witness a Mujizah it
is compulsory to believe in it.
Karamah another mode of unusual happenings is also an
act of Allah; it appears at the hands of a Man of Allah. The basic
difference in Mujizah and Karamah is that one who performs Mujizah,
addresses himself as a Prophet, a Man of Allah has no such claim. In
both Mujizah and Karamah the usual cause and effect link is absent.
Things happen but without any cause; and there is usually a total
transformation of the nature and behavior of objects in Mujizah and
Karamah. What is required is a generalized belief in them. Allah
chooses whoever He wills for Mujizah and Karamah. No degree of
stringent discipline can give the power to make the unusual happen.
Irhaas is also a kind of Karamah. It heralds a coming of a
prophet. It usually occurs at the hands of the one who is closely
related to the prophet: the unprecedented happenings in the life of
Maryam, mother of prophet Hazrat Isaa Alaihis-Salaam or the
various unusual events that began occurring to and around
Aaminah the blessed mother of our Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam; for instance, she had no pangs of birth, towards the
close of the birth period she used to hear stranger voices greeting
her, although she saw no one. It is compulsory to believe in such
events of Irhaas as have been mentioned in the Holy Quran and
believe in a general manner, that Irhaas is usually associated with
the coming of a prophet.
____________________________________________________________

The difference between miracle and magic

The miracles of prophets and saints are
different from magic, firstly, in their respective
natures, and, secondly, with regard to the signs and

20

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

indications attendant upon each. As for the

difference in their natures, it lies in the fact that the
results produced through magic depend on the law
of causality as much as do the ordinary and usual
events in the physical world, the only distinction
being that the causes are in the latter case quite
clear or easily observable, while in the former they
are different for a common man to detect. Where the
causes are evident, the effects are immediately
referred back to them, and the events thus produced
are not considered to be astonishing, but where the
causes are hidden or obscure, the events produced
by them arouse wonder and amazement, and those
who are ignorant of the causes rapidly come to
believe that the things have happened in
contravention of the habitual laws of the physical
universe.
Note: (In

the West, they describe such events as being

supernatural, although the Latin word Natura, which is the
equivalent of the Greek word Phusis, does, at least in its original
sense, cover all that has been created, whether it lies in the domain
studied by empirical science or beyond it).

What these people do not realize is that such

happenings are as much due to certain causes as the
habitual events the cause in the case of
extraordinary happenings often being the activity of
a jinn or a devil (Shaytan). For example, a letter
suddenly falls in front of a man, and on reading it he
finds that the letter has been written just this day
and is coming from a distance of ten thousand miles.

21

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

Now, the onlookers would call it a supernatural

event, for they do not know that Allah Taala has
given the power of doing such things to jinns and
devils. Once one comes to understand the means
through which things of this nature take place, one
would no longer see them as supernatural, or even
as being contrary to habit. In short, all the results
obtained through magical practices are, in fact, due
to the operation of physical causes, but in the eyes
of common people they acquire the illusory
appearance of supernatural events, simply because
the operative causes are hidden from them.
On the other hand, miracles happen directly
under divine command without the intervention of
physical causes. For example, the Holy Quran tells
us how the tyrant Namrud (Nimrod) threw Sayyidina
Hazrat Ibraheem Alaihis Salaam into a blazing fire, and
how Allah Taala commanded the fire to grow cold
for him, but not so cold as to do him harm and the
fire obeyed the command, and, instead of scorching
him, provided a place of safety. This was a direct
divine act, and hence a miracle. Now, we sometimes
hear of men who, having applied certain chemicals
to their body, can enter a fire without being
scorched. This is not a miracle, for the operative
cause is of a physical nature that is, chemicals.
(To be continued, Insha-Allahu-Taala)

It is the habit of Allah Taala that He always
punishes the wrong-doers with a punishment
which is contrary to their actions, for example, He
always punishes the haughty and the arrogant
with disgrace. Similarly, the punishment of the
oppressors are that they will be deprived of Allah

1. Those matters that are clearly permissible (there is no
doubt regarding their permissibility) their
permissibility is mentioned clearly mentioned in the
Holy Quran and or Sunnah.
2. Those matters which are clearly impermissible (there
is no doubt regarding their impermissibility) their
impermissibility is clearly mentioned in the Holy
Quran and or Sunnah.
3. Those matters that are doubtful there is no explicit
indication to their permissibility or impermissibility in
the Holy Quran and the Sunnah most people
therefore doubt whether such things are permissible
or not.
In this Hadith, Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam) teaches us that abstinence is the best attitude
to adopt regarding such doubtful things, because,
whoever avoids the doubtful, safeguards his faith and
his honour.
Avoiding the doubtful matters safeguards a
persons faith as continuous indulging in the doubtful
eventually causes a person to indulge in Haram
matters, avoiding the doubtful keeps a person far from
Haraam. Similarly, avoiding the doubtful safeguards
ones honour. As long as a person avoids the doubtful
matters people will not accuse him of indulging in
Haraam.
One who gets involved in the doubtful will fall in
unlawful activities.

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

The meaning of this sentence is that

continuous indulging in the doubtful eventually
causes a person to indulge in Haraam.
Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)
thereafter gives an example to explain the
meaning of the sentence one who gets involved in
the doubtful, falls in unlawful activities. The crux
of the example is that just as the shepherd who
grazes his flock very close to the border of his
pasture fears that some of his animals may stray
into his neighbours pasture, by constantly
engaging in doubtful things / activities we may
stray into the pasture of Haraam.
In the human body is the heart.

A persons actions and speech prove whether

there is Imaan and sincerity or whether this is kufr
or hypocrisy in a persons heart. It is for this
reason that when the heart is healthy, the whole
body is healthy, and when it is ailing, the whole
body is ailing.

Lessons:
1. Abstain from doubtful matters, because
indulging in doubtful matters will eventually
lead a person to indulge in Haraam.
2. The heart, being the most important part of
the human body, must be kept spiritually
pure.

Seeratul Mustafa Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam

By: Hazrat MaulanaMuhammadIdrees Kaandhelwi SahibRahmatullahi Alaihi
Translated By: Mufti Muhammad Kadwa Sahib and
Maulana Muhammad Muhammady Sahib
(Continued from the previous issue of AN-NOOR)

Maternal lineage
Ilyaas: He was the namesake of Hazrat Ilyaas
(Alaihis salaam). The Sunnah (tradition of herding
the Hadi (sacrificial) animals towards Baitullaah (in
Makkah) was instituted by Ilyaas bin Mudar. It has
been said that Ilyaas bin Mudar would quite often
hear from his own back the Talbiyah of Haj being
recited by Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam). It has also been narrated that Hazrat
Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: Do not
speak ill of Ilyaas as he was a Muslim.
Mudrikah: Most Ulama are of the opinion that
Mudrikahs name was Amr. Mudrikah is derived
from Idraak, literally meaning achievement. Since
he achieved virtually every form of stature in his
life, he was awarded the title of Mudrikah, the
achiever.
Khuzaymah: Ibn Abbaass (Raziyallahu Anhuma) says
that Khuzaymah died on Millat-e-Ibraaheemi (the

Kinaanah: He was regarded in high esteem
amongst all Arabs. Due to his noble graciousness
and vast knowledge, people would travel far and
wide just to pay him a special visit.
Nadr: Nadr is derived from Nadaarah, which
means luminous and verdant. Owing to his
exceptional handsomeness he was entitled Nadr.
His actual name was Qays.
Maalik: His first name was Maalik whilst his title
was Abdul-Haarith. He was one of the most
prominent chieftains of the Quraysh.
Fihr: Fihr was his first name whilst Quraysh was
his title. According to some, his name was
Quraysh whilst his title was Fihr. His descendants
are referred to as Qurayshi whilst other Arab
descendants not hailing from Fihr are referred to
as Kinaani. Some Ulama are of the opinion that
the term Quraysh is used to refer to the progeny
of Nadr bind Kinaanah.
Hafiz Iraaqi writes:

As for Qurash, the most authentic (opinion) is
that they are (the descendants) of Fihr but
most are of the (opinion) that they (are the

descendants) of Nadr.

Reasons for the name of Quraysh

Quraysh is actually the name of marine
animal, which, owing to its great strength,
dominates all other marine animals. It promptly
devours all other sea creatures but none dares to
overwhelm it. Similarly, the Quraysh, owing to
their unrivalled valour and incredible courage,
always maintained their dominance over the other
tribes. None dared to overwhelm them. This is
why they were referred to as Quraysh.
Kab: The person to initiate the weekly
congregation on Fridays was Kab bin Luway. Kab
bin Luway would assemble all the people every
Friday and deliver a sermon. He would firstly
praise Allah Taala and explain that Allah Taala
created the skies, the earth, the moon, the sun
and all other forms of creation of creation. He
would then go on to give them some advice. He
would encourage them to maintain favourable
family ties. He would also mention: A prophet is
to appear amongst my descendants. If you happen
to encounter that time, make sure you follow
him. At times he would recite the following
stanza:

Hazrat

(Rahmatullahi-alaihi)
says that Hazrat Abdu

name
was
Mughirah.
He
was
exceptionally handsome and striking. This is why
he was known as Qamar Al-Bathaa (the moon of

Haashim: Hazrat Imaam Maalik (Rahamatullahialaihi) and Hazrat Imaam Shaafiee (rahamatullahialaihi) says that Haashims actual name was Amr.
During a severe drought in Makkah, Haashim fed
its inhabitants with roti crushed into gravy, hence
the name Haashim. (Haashim means the crusher).
As a poet says:

The exalted Amr crushed bread into

Thareed (meat dish) and fed it to his people and

to all others when the people of Makkah were
left pathetically feeble by the drought.
They did not occur only once, but he fed
them in this manner on a number of occasions. He
was exceedingly generous. His food tale was
enormously wide. His table was open to every
newcomer or traveler. He would provide the poor
travelers with camels to complete their journeys.
He was exceptionally handsome. The noor of
prophethood would glimmer on his forehead. The
Ulama of the Bani Israaeel would fall into sajdah
and kiss his hands whenever they caught sight of
him.
A number of Arab tribes of the Ulama of the
Banu Israaeel would offer their daughters hands
in marriage to Haashim. In fact, on one occasion,
Heraclius, the Byzantine emperor wrote to
Haashim thus: I have learnt of you unrivalled
generosity. I wish to grant you my daughters
hand in marriage. She is a princess unparalled in
beauty. In order to perform the Nikaah with the
princess, kindly come over to us. However,
Haashim refused to accept the proposal. In actual
fact, the emperors key objective was to transmit
the noor of prophethood that was glimmering on
Haashims forehead into the royal family. It is said
that Haashim passed away at the age of twentyfive.

Blessed Companions

Raziyallahu Taala Anhum Ajmaeen

By: Shaikhul-Hadeeth Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Sb.

Rahmatullahi-Alaihi

Fear of Allah TaaAla

Hazrat Abu Bakr Raziyallahu Anhu and the

fear of Allah Taala:
With all these virtues and privileges, Hazrat
Abu Bakr (Raziyallahu anhu) used to say: I wish I
were a tree that would be cut and done away
with.
Sometimes he would say: I wish I were a
blade of grass, whose life ended with the grazing
of an animal.
He also said: I wish I were a strain of hair
on the body of a Momin.
Once he went to a garden, where he saw a
bird singing. He sighed deeply and said: O, bird!
How lucky you are! You eat, you drink and fly
under the shade of the trees, and you fear no
reckoning of the Day of Qiyaamah. I wish I were
just like you.
Hazrat Rabiah Aslami Raziyallahu Anhu narrates:
I once had some arguments with Hazrat Abu Bakr

32

May, June 2016

Raziyallahu Anhu,

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

during which he uttered a word that

I did not like. He realized it immediately and said
to me brother, please say that word back to me in
retaliation. I refused to do so. He persisted, and
even spoke of referring the matter to Hazrat Nabi
Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), but I did not agree
to utter that word. He got up and left me. A few
people of my clan remarked, Look! How strange!
The person does wrong to you and on the top of
that, he threatens to complain to Hazrat Nabi
Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). I said, Do you
know who he is? He is Hazrat Abu Bakr Raziyallahu
Anhu. To displease him is to displease Hazrat Nabi
Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and to displease
Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is to
displease Allah Taala, and if Allah Taala is
displeased then who can save Rabiah from ruin? I
went to Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi
Wasallam) and narrated the whole story to him. He
said, You were quite right in refusing to utter that
word. But you could have said this much in reply:
O, Abu Bakr, May Allah Taala forgive you!
Look at the fear of Allah Taala in Hazrat Abu
Bakr Raziyallahu Anhu. He is so anxious to clear his
accounts in this world, that no sooner has a
slightly unpleasant word been addressed by him to
a person, than he regrets it and requests him to
say that word back to him in retaliation. He is so
particular in this that he threatens to have the

33

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

retaliation done through the intervention of Hazrat

Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). We are in the
habit of saying offensive words to others, but we
fear neither the retaliation nor the reckoning in the
Hereafter.

Hazrat Umar Raziyallahu Anhu and the fear

of Allah Taala:
Hazrat Umar (Raziyallahu anhu) would often hold
a straw in his hand and say: I wish I were a straw
like this.
Sometimes he would say: I wish had not
given birth to me.
Once he was busy with some important work
when a person came to him complaining about
some petty grievance, and requested for its
redress. Hazrat Umar Raziyallahu Anhu lashed him
across his shoulders, saying: When I sit for that
purpose, you do not come to me, but when I am
engaged in other important work you come with
your grievances to interrupt me.
The person walked away. But Hazrat Umar
Raziyallahu Anhu sent for him and handing his whip
over to him, said: You lash me now to even the
matter. The person said: I forgive you for the
sake of Allah Taala.
Hazrat Umar Raziyallahu Anhu went home,
prayed a Salah of two rakaats in repentance and

34

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

reprimanded himself, saying: O, Umar! You were

low but Allah Taala elevated you. You were
wandering astray but Allah Taala guided you. You
were an ordinary person but Allah Taala ennobled
you and gave you rule over the people. Now one
of them comes and asks you for redress of the
wrong done to him, and you beat him? What
answer have you to give before Allah Taala? He
kept on scolding himself thus for a very long time.
Once when Hazrat Umar Raziyallahu Anhu with
his slave Aslam was going towards Harrah (a
suburb of Madinah Munawwarah), on his usual
rounds, he saw a distant fire in the desert. He
said: There seems to be a camp. Perhaps it is a
caravan that could not enter the town due to
nightfall. Lets go and look after them and arrange
for their protection during the night.
When he reached there, he found a woman
and some children. The children were crying. The
woman had a pan of water over the fire. Hazrat
Umar Raziyallahu Anhu greeted her with salaam and
with her permission, went near her.
Hazrat Umar Raziyallahu Anhu asked: Why are
these children crying?
The woman replied: because they are
hungry.
Hazrat Umar Raziyallahu Anhu asked: What is in
the pan?

Statements and Anecdotes of Faqeehul-Ummat,

Matters pertaining to Hadith

Rectifying the Umm-us-Saheehain
Thirdly, Hazrat Imaam Malik (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
has brought the practices of the people of Madinah
in substantiation of his mazhab. The practices of
the people of Madinah that conform to the mazhab
of Hazrat Imaam Abu Hanifah (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
have been mentioned by Imaam Muhammad in
Kitaab-ul-Hujjah. Then Hazrat Imaam Muhammad
(Rahmatullahi Alaihi) has brought the practices of
others in substantiation of the mazhab of Hazrat
Imaam Abu Hanifah (Rahmatullahi Alaihi). In this way,
no practice of the people of Madinah that
contradicts the mazhab of Hazrat Imam Abu
Hanifah (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) has been left unanawered
by Hazrat Imaam Muhammad (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) in
Kitaab-ul-Hujjah.
The basis of: Salaah in the miraaj of a mumin
I asked Maulana Madani (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
that (salaah is the miraaj of a mumin) appears in

36

many of your correspondence but you have not

written its source. In which kitaab of Hadeeth does
it appear?
Moulana replied, There is no consensus of it
being a fabricated narration.
I said, I did not even come across there
being a difference of opinion regarding it. I meant
that I had not seen this Hadeeth in any kitaab.
Once, Maulana Abdurrahman Kemilpuri
wrote to me asking me the source of Salaah is the
miraaj of a mumin. In the presence of Hazrat
Moulana Ilyas (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) I asked Hazrat
Shaikh Zakariyya (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) regarding this
hadeeth. Hazrat Shaikh replied that if it as proven.
One hearing this, Maulana Ilyaas (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
said, Well, there are certain books of Hadeeth
whose pages are deprived of certain ahaadeeth.
This
Hadeeth
is
mentioned
in
the
correspondence
of
Mujaddid
Alf-e-Thaani
(Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
and in some of the books of
Hazrat Imaam Ghazaali (Rahmatullahi Alaihi), but its
source has not been mentioned. The origins of the
ahaadeeth that appears in the correspondence of
Mujaddid Alfe-e-Thaani have been researched and
shown, but the origin of this Hadeeth has not been
mentioned.

Purpose of mans creation

It appears in the hadeeth:

j j] k ^n] ]
The dunya (world) was created for you and
you were created for the hereafter.
This means that every creation of Allah
Taala as been created for the benefit of man
irrespective of how small or large it is; be it the
sky, the moon, the sun etc. if they did not exist,
then life for man would have been very difficult.
On the other hand, if man did not exist,
these creations would have not been affected the
least bit, because man was not created for them.
Instead, man was created for the hereafter and for
the ibaadat (worship) of Allah Taala as mentioned
in the Quran:

f n $ ] ] $ r] k ^
I have only created jinn and man for My
worship. [51:56]
The goat that was taken without its owners permission
Once a woman invited Hazrat Nabi Akram
(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) for meals and presented
some meat. However, when Hazrat Nabi Akram
(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) tried to swallow the morsel
of food it was unable to go down his throat. Hazrat

38

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then said,

This meant was obtained without its owners
permission.
When the host was asked about this, she
said, I sent my servant to the market to purchase
a goat, but he could not find anyone who had
goat, but the he was not present. Without his
permission, his wife allowed me to have the goat
(his permission was to be sought latter) and I
slaughtered it.
On

hearing

this, Hazrat Nabi Akram

(Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, Feed this meat to
the captives (who had not provisions). (Mishkaat,
Vol 1, Pg 544)
Wiping the hands on the heels after meals
Wiping the hands on ones heels after meals
is established from authentic ahaadeeth. The
Hadeeth is as follows:

^]] ^] ^ ] ] m ^ ^ m
We did not have towels on which we could
wipe our hands save for our palms, elbows
and feet. [Bukhaari, Vol 2, pg 820]
Some associates had seen Hazrat practicing
this Hadeeth. After eating dry food or braai meat,
the oil on the hands was wiped and after washing
with water, they were dried on the palms, elbows
and feet.

Respect for Asaatizah (Teachers)
Do not offend your Asaatizah
If, Allah forbid, you showed disrespect to
your Asaatizah or were rude to them, then
immediately, with total humility, ask their
forgiveness. One can never obtain any benefit
from ones Ustaaz, if he harbours any ill feelings
for him.
Once, Hazrat Imaam Ahmad (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)
was lying down due to some illness. In the middle
of the discussion someone made mention of
Ibraheem bin Tahmaan (Rahmatullahi Alaihi). on
listening to this name, Hazrat Imaam Ahmad
(Rahmatullahi Alaihi) immediately sat up. Thereafter he
remarked, it is inappropriate that the names of
the elders are mentioned, whilst we are sitting and
relaxing.
It is also necessary for students to respect
the children and associates of your asaatidha.

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

In Taleemul Mutaallim there is an incident

narrated by the author of Hidaayah about a great
Aalim who was among the Imaams of bukhaara.
He says that once whilst delivering a lesson, he
suddenly stood up. When asked the reason for
doing so, he replied: My Ustaazs son was playing
outside with the other children. Whilst playing he
came towards the Masjid. I stood up out of respect
for him.
My Ustaaz, Hazrat Mufti Mahmood Hasan
Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi), once mentioned in a majlis
that Shaikhul Hind Maulana Mahmoodul Hassan
Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) intended to go for haj.
Before leaving, he went to the house of the late
Hazrat Moulana Qaasim Naanotwi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi).
Whilst standing at the doorstep, he requested for
the shoes of his Ustaazs wife. He placed the shoes
on his head and cried for a long time. Thereafter
he said, I could not fulfill the rights of my Ustaaz
as I ought to have. Perhaps this action may
compensate for my weakness.
Allamah Sharani (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) writes
that a significant sign which reveals the
weakness of a student is that he is found to be
disrespectful to his Ustaaz. He looks away from
his Ustaaz in his presence, nor in his absence
and he is unmindful of his position and status. If
his UstaaZ passes away, then he desires the

41

position, rank and even the possessions of his

ustaaz. He quarrels and engages in discussions
with his Ustaazs children concerning these
matters and regards himself to be more worthy
of these things than them. He questions and
rejects the sayings of his Ustaaz as a result of
his weak understanding or due to outside
influence.
After
acquiring
the
necessary
knowledge from his Ustaaz, he debates with him
in a negative manner.
Hazrat Ali (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) used to say, I
am a slave to that person who has taught me even
on letter. If he wishes, he may sell me and if he
wishes he may set me free. Alternatively he may
enslave me.

bestowed you with cannot ever compare with the

A strange story about forgiveness

It was the era of Hazrat Hasan Basri
Rahmataullahi Alaihi.

There was a female student who

always attended his lectures. She had a son and a

son and a husband who had a good business. She
was a pious woman. Her husband died when she
was still young. She thought, If I remarry, I will
get a husband but my son may not benefit. His
step father may mistreat him. She therefore
decided not to remarry and sacrificed her desires
for the sake of his child.
A Hadith says that a woman, who does not
remarry so that she can look after her children,
will be rewarded as if she were spending her whole
life as a ghazi, a Muslim warrior. This is she
because did jihad with her desires and looked after
her children.
She looked after him at home to the best of
her ability, but had no control over him when he

44

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

came of age and began to venture out. He had

youth and money, which completely blinded him.
He was unconscious, and led a life according to his
desires. He fell into bad company, and became a
drunkard and an adulterer. His mother would try
and council him, but to no avail.
She

took

Rahmatullahi Alaihi,

him

his folly, but nothing helped. Hazrat Hasan Basri

Rahmatullahi

that may be Allah Taala had

stamped his heart.

]
^f$q f j g oF # ] _m
That is how Allah Taala Stamps a seal on the
entire heart of an arrogant tyrant.
Sometimes Allah Taala stamps once heart
and it becomes harder than stone, so that nothing
affects it.
A mother is a mother, however, and his love
is such that she will love both, a good child and a
bad one. The world loves only the good, but a
mother is different. A father may through a bad
child out of the house, but a mother will not do
that. Allah Taala has filled a mothers heart with
love.
She continued trying to persuade her son to
lead a good and pious life. Finally due to years of
negligence, her son lost both, his youth and his

45

money. Additionally, due to his sins and adulteress

life style, he contracted an incurable disease. His
mother still kept on asking him to change and
became a good, pious person. She said,O my
son! You have ruined your life, but there is still
time. Repent; ask forgiveness from Allah Taala,
he is most forgiving.
Her son was affected by her words, and
asked, how shall I repent? I have committed
major sins!
His mother suggested they visited Hazrat
Hasan Basari Rahmatullahi Alaihi and ask him. He
replied that he was too weak to go and hold her
that since there was no means of carrying him
there, it was best for her to ask Hazrat Hasan
Basri Rahmatullahi Alaihi to come home.
He then said. If, on your return, you find
me dead, ask Hazrat Hasan Basri Rahmatullahi
Alaihi to perform my funeral prayer.
Hazrat Hasan Basri Rahmatullahi Alaihi had
just had his afternoon meal and intended to take a
short rest before his next lecture, when he heard a
knock on the door. He asked who it was. His
student identified herself and told him that her son
was taking his last breathes. She said that he
wanted to ask Allah Taala for forgiveness, and
wanted Hazrat Hasan Basri Rahmatullahi Alaihi to
come home and help him.

him to lead his funeral prayer. Hazrat Hasan Basri
Rahmatullahi Alaihi declined and said that he
would never do that, as her son had never prayed
even once throughout his life. (Some people at the
time would not say funeral prayers for a person
who never prayed,, because Allah Taala says that

Since she was his student, she left him

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

A strange request
He said, When I die, rope me up and pull
my body into the courtyard, like one would do to a
dead dog. When his mother enquired why, he
said, so that everyone will see the consequences
of the one who was disobedient to his Lord and his
parents, He then said, Do not burry me in the
graveyard, burry me in the courtyard of the
house. I do not want to be the cause of pain to the
other grave dwellers. Allah Taala heard this plea
and immediately took his life.
The mother was just shutting her sons eyes
when she heard a knock on the door. She
enquired who it was, and Hazrat Hasan Basri
Rahmatullahi Alaihi replied that it was he. He said,
After I told you I would not come, I went to take
a rest and fell asleep. In my dream, Allah Taala
told me,
Hasan Basri, what kind of a friend are you?
You have refused to perform the funeral
prayer of one of a wali of mine! I then to
understood that Allah Taala has accepted
your

sons

repentance.

have

come

to

perform his funeral prayer.

Allah Taala is therefore most forgiving, and
forgives ones sins even on ones deathbed.

Family Bond

BRINGING UP
CHILDREN IN ISLAM
By: Hazrat Maulana Dr. Muhammad Habibullaah Mukhtaar Sahib

Translated by: Jenab Rafiq Abdurrahmaan Sahib

(Continue from the previous issue of AN-NOOR)

To an non-believer, a Muslim may say:

] u*] ( q*] # ] ]

May Allah Taala increase your reward

and comfort you well.
A non-believer may say to a Muslim:

May Allah Taala comfort you well and

forgive your dead.
To one another, the non-believers may says:

May Allah Taala compensate you.

Sympathizers may prepare food for the
bereaved family while they are occupied with
funeral arrangements1. However, the bereaved
family is not supposed to feed visitors, who must
express sorrow with the family of the dead. They
may persuade the bereaved family to be patient.

Verses of the Quran and ahadith on the virtues of

patience may be narrated to them. Salah may be
offered for mercy. The good qualities of the dead
should be remembered. However, if a unusual act
is performed as part of the funeral ceremonies,
disapproval may be expressed in carefully chosen
words without fear of blame or regard. It is a sin
not to point out a lapse1. The person who omits to
speak

up,

will

be

punished

before

death2.

However, owing to the peculiar situation, this must

be done very discreetly.3
Sneezing and yawning
A person who sneezes, should say: # v ] or
n^ ] h # v ] or ^ u oF # v ]. The person who

hears these words must say: # ] u m in reply.

The first person must then answer:

However, when a person who sneezes, does

Hazrat Nabi Akram

sneezed and you gave a reply. When I sneezed
you did not give a reply. Hazrat Nabi Akram

said, This one said # v ]

and you did not say # v ].2

One who sneezes must place the hand or
handkerchief over the mouth to keep down the
sound. Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam),
did so himself3. Allah Taala does not like a loud
sneeze4. If one sneezes more than three times, it
will not be necessary to give a reply. It is possible
one is suffering from a cold. Dua should be made
for the person instead5.#] u m

For a non-Muslim who sneezes, the reply
should be:

A reply is not given to a young woman who
sneezes, but will be given for an old woman1
Yawning
Yawning must be suppressed to the best of
ones ability. Allah Taala, the Exalted, likes sneezing
but does not like yawning. Yawning is promoted by
the devil and when accompanied by a sound, the
devil is happy and laughs2. When one cannot
prevent it, one should cover ones mouth so that the
devil may not enter it3. The salaf saaliheen say
when one has the urge to yawn and remembers that
Hazrat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), never
yawned, the urge to yawn will fade away.
These are the social codes that Islam
embraces and Muslims adopt. No other religion or
society emphasizes them. These point to the
grandeur of Islaam as a social religion that aims at
reforming all societies.

Great Personality

Rahimahullahu Taala
By: Hazrat Allamah Muhammad Ibn Yusuf Salihi Dimashqi Shafiee
Rahmatullahi-Alaihi

(Continue from the previous issue of AN-NOOR)

Hazrat Imam Sahibs excessive Ibaadat and

recitation of the Quran and his nightly vigils
From the corner of Kabah, a voice called
out: You have recognized and how well you have
recognized. And you have also worshipped very
sincerely. We have forgiven you as well as all
those who tread your path until the Day of
Judgment.

Allah

Taala

says:

My

mercy

encompasses everything Surah Aaraf verse 156.

The whole issue here concerns the abundance of
Allah Taalas mercy.
The author says: When I was in my home
town, Damascus, Allamah Shamsudin Muhammad
Ibn Isa Ajami Hanafi heard another man saying a
stanza of Sayyidi Shaikh Yousuf Ajami in the
following words:
Glory be unto You, O Allah!
We havent worshipped You as You ought to be

53

worshipped.
Glory be unto You!
We havent recognized You as You ought to be
recognized.
Shaikh Shamsud-Din forbade him for saying
it in this manner and bade him to say: We have
recognized You as You ought to be recognized.
The person reciting these words compiled a
question

and

submitted

it

to

the

Ulama

of

Damascus. All of them refused to accept the

opinion of Shaikh Shamsud-Din. He based his
opinion on the aforementioned incident of Hazrat
Imam Abu Hanifah (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) wherein Imam
Sahib used the same words Shaikh Shamasud-Din
bade the other person to say. However, his
opinion

was

refuted

by

Shaikh

Kamalud-din,

Shaikh Burhanud-din son of Abu Sharif, Shaikh

Taqiyud-din Qadi of Ajlun and other Ulama and
they interpreted the words of Imam Sahib in a
different manner. They had compiled a very
lengthy interpretation which I had with me until
someone borrowed it and failed to return it.
Khawarizimi narrates that Ahmad Ibn Bashir
and Hafs Ibn Ghiyath said: We havent come
across any Mujtahid in the field of devotions who
is perfect in the field of Haram and Halal (Faqih)

54

May, June 2016

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

who is also perfect in his devotions. However,

Hazrat Imam Abu Haneefah (Rahmatullahi

Alaihi)

was

perfect in both fields. He was well versed in both

sciences. At the point where he was captured
before his death, we estimated his recitation of the
Holy Quran to reach seven thousand recitations.
He completed many recitations even at other
places. Every Ramazan, he is reported to have
completed sixty recitations of the Holy Quran.
Hazrat Huzali (Rahmatullahi alaihi) narrates in
Kamil that when Hazrat Abu Haneefah (Rahmatullahi
alaihi)

passed away, one of neighbours children

addressed his father: Abbaji! Roof every night?

the father replied: Son! That was not an ordinary
pillar, but it was a pillar of Hazrat Abu Haneefahs
Shariah (Rahmatullahi alaihi).
Hazrat
(Rahmatullahi alaihi)

Abdul-Muayyid

Khawarizmi

says in one his poems:

The days of Hazrat Abu Haneefah

(Rahmatullahi alaihi) are for the benefit of
the people whilst his nights are for
ibaadat.
Surah Zilzal (on the earthquake of
Qiyamah) had jolted him with its
violent force and plundered his heart.

55

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

He bid farewell to his sleep for fifty

years in the Ibadat of Allah Taala and
his cheeks also bid farewell of his
pillow.
An objection against Imam Sahib and its
answer by Hazrat Imam Kurduri
Hazrat Imam Kurduri says: If you bring
about the objection that the Hadith says: He, who
recites the Quran in less than three days, has
failed to understand it. Then why did Imam Sahib
(Rahmatullahi alaihi)

recite the entire Holy Quran in

one night? I will respond to this objection by

saying: Recitation of the Quran in less than three
days is prohibited for that person for whom the
Quran was not simplified. You must be aware of
the

Hadith

wherein

Rasulullah

(Sallallahu

Alaihi

Wasallam), says: Qirat was simplified for Hazrat Dawud

(Alaihis salaam) to such an extent that when he issued a

command (to his servant) to saddle his horse, he could

recite the entire Zabur in the time it took them to
saddle the horse. Similarly, it has been established on
the basis of authentic narrations that Hazrat Uthman
Ibn Affan, Hazrat Tamim Daari and Hazrat Saeed Ibn
Jubair (Rahmatullahi alaihim) used to recite the entire

Quran in one rakat.

Letters to the Editor

Finest journal
Esteemed Editor,
Assalaamu-alaikum-wa-rahmatullah-wa-barakaatuhu

I am an avid reader of the revered monthly

journal, AN-NOOR, being published from Daarul-Uloom
Raheemiyyah Bandipora Kashmir. It is one of the finest
journal and full of knowledge concerning the Seerat-ePaak, Hadith-Shareef, Blessed Companions, it can be
considered a treasure. Being a student, I like the section
of Etiquettes, where one is taught to respect his/her
Asaatizah (teachers) and to regard it as necessary for
students. The Sahaabah and Ulamaa themselves used to
show great respect to their teachers. One wishes to
inherit their ethics and etiquettes.
The subjects and themes in the respected
journal are always plain, clear and lucrative. Every
edition of the revered journal is surpassingly good and
praiseworthy. The journal keeps a person intact with
his religion (Islaam) in all respects.
I really feel glad to be a reader of venerated
journal. I pray to Almighty Allah that may this journal
enlighten the lives of all Muslims and protect them
from avaricious materialism and vicious westernization
(Aameen).

calibre to deal with almost every subject and to
fulfill almost every need of the Muslim community.
This conference taught us how much we should
equip our graduates and scholars to deal with the
issues arising from the present day Islamic world,
and we feel that we have to learn more and more
and excel in academic arena, Hazrat Sahib stated
firmly. Our Ulamaa are struggling to cope with
the demands of time without distorting the
Islaamic Sahariah and are working for such
Muslim brethren who are in difficult circumstances
tirelessly. Hazrat Sahib added. Hazrat Sahib
thanked Jamiat-e-Ulamaa-e-Hind for organizing
this workshop for the scholars of the world at
Darul-Uloom Raheemiyyah Bandipora Kashmir and
concluded the speech with supplication.

Shaban-Ramzan 1437

Hazrat Mufti Sahib defined what Eimaan is and

said that all such predictions and prophecies that
had been made by Hazrat Nabi Akram Sallallaahu
Taaala-alaihi-wasallam at that time are coming true
today and the people of these times are observing
them coming true with their own eyes, so this is
one of the proofs that he Sallallaahu Taaala-alaihiwasallam is a true Prophet Sallallaahu Taaala-alaihiwasallam.
This speech was followed by a Naat-eShareef recited by Jenab Ahmad Abdullah Sahib.
Next speaker of this convocation was
Ameerul-Hind, Hazrat Maulaana Qaari Sayyid
Muhammad Usmaan Sahib Mansoorpuri DaamatBarakaatuhum.

termination of Prophethood: Khatm-e-Nabuwwat
is an excellent and an important aspect of Seerate-Paak of Hazrat Nabi Akram Sallallaahu Taaala-alaihiwasallam. Then Hazrat Qaari Sahib described the
Prophet Eisaa Alaihi-Salaam and underlined the
believing of his descending from the heavens on
the Earth. Hazrat Qaari Sahib referred to Hazrat
Mahdi, who would appear in Makkah-Shareef in
the future as a just Muslim ruler, and also told
about Kaanaa-Dajjaal and his atrocities to be
committed by him at the time of his emergence in
the future. And at last, Dajjaal will be killed by

heavens on the Earth and where will be he buried

Daarul-Uloom Deoband, Hazrat Maulaana Mufti
Abul-Qaasim Sahib Numaani Daamat-Barakaatuhum,
addressed the convocation. Hazrat Mufti Sahib told
that three things protect from perishing and three
things are disastrous. The things that protect are:
Fearing Allah in private as well as in public life
obtaining Taqwaa, 2nd is to speak the truth and
good things in every situation and the third one is
to spend moderately not lavishly.
And the three disastrous things are:
Becoming the slave of the whims of wishes, 2nd
one is loving the wealth too much and the 3rd one
is rejecting the consultation of piously elder
persons.
At last, Hazrat Maulaana Dr. Abdur-rahmaan
Sahib Mongairaa from England addressed this
convocation of the Raheemiyyah varsity in English.
He said that one who is liked by Allaah Almighty is

being used in the service of Deen. And Allaah

Almighty gives him or her Taufeeq to do good
deeds while leaving this world. Everyone
possesses some kind of abilities. The abilities need
acceptance by Allah Almighty. Everyone can help
Deen. Therefore, ask Rabbul-Aalameen to accept
me for the service of Deen. I thank very much
Hazrat Maulaana Sahib, Head of Daarul-Uloom
Raheemiyyah institution and also thank the people
of Kashmir, Dr. Mongairaa Sahib concluded.
