your novel.
Exposition: All the characters are introduced
and we learn a little about the each character
and what there like.
Initial Incident: Pony is walking home when
the Socs jump him and threaten to cut off his
hair, but Darry and Soda save Pony.
Rising Action: Ponyboy and some of the gang
go to the movies and meet Cherry Valence.
After the movie they are walking Cherry home

when they fall asleep in a lot. Pony wakes up
and goes home, when he gets home Darry is

Johnny and they go to the park and the Socs

boys, and they run away to find Dally. Dally
tells them where to go and gives them money
and a gun.
Falling Action: Pony and Johnny get to the
place where they were supposed to go. They
stay there for a couple of days, then Dally
shows up. They go and get food at a
restaurant and they go back to the church
and it is on fire. Pony, Johnny and Dally go
into the church to save some kids and Johnny
gets hurt in the process. Johnny goes to the

.Three literary devices in your novel.

Symbolism: One time when symbolism is

used is when Cherry Valence and Ponyboy
are talking they bring up the topic about
sunrises and sunsets. Sunrise and sunset is
a symbol of unity and connection.
Flash Back: One time when a flash back is
used is when Ponyboy thinks of when Johnny
got jumped by the Socs and how beat up he
was.
Foreshadowing: Ponyboy wondered what is
would be like to be in a burning ember and
he sort of found out when he went into the
burning church and saved those kids.
12 . Identify the audience this novel
was intended for and why? Do you
feel like the author did a good job

reaching his or her target/audience,

could she or he done anything
different? If so what?
I think this book was made for teenagers.
(Age 12-16) It tells them that even if you are
different it shouldnt effect who you are and
how people see you. Yes I think she did a
good job because it made a lot of sense and
most the words made sense.
13 . Explain the setting of the novel
and why it works/doesnt work.
It is based in the early/mid-1900s on the
street of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I think it works
because it is an interesting place because
there are fights and lots of action happening
there.
14 .Identify the tone with which the
author writes in this novel.
She likes and respect her character and
even though they dont always make good
decision she still likes them and cares for
them.

15 .Name three things you like about

this novel.
1.
I liked all the description in this novel
and it really gave you a good detailed
image of what is happening around and to
the characters.
2.
I liked all the friendships that
happened in the book, like how some of
the greasers became friends with the
Socs. For example Cherry Valence and
Randy.
3.
I liked everyone had different
personalitys in the book and that
everyone thought differently in different
situations.
16 .Name three things you didnt like
about this novel.
1.
I didnt like how the Socs were so cruel
and mean and tried to drown Pony in the
water fountain.
2.
I didnt like how Johnny had to die in
the end, I wish he could have live and not
died.
3.
I really didnt like Johnnys parents.
They were so cruel and mean to Johnny. I

really dont think Johnny deserved parents

like that. They dont even care about him.
17 . Identify and explain the turning
point of the plot of this novel. Why
was the turning point necessary in
the story? Is there anything you
would have done differently? Why or
why not?
The turning point of the novel is when Johnny
kill one of the Socs and they have to run
away. The turning of the novel is necessary
because it gets the reads interested and
creates a problem that the main protagonists
have to overcome or solve. If I were to change
anything it would be that the cops are chasing
Ponyboy and Johnny, not just trying to find
them.
18

.What is the purpose of this novel?

I think the purpose of this novel is to respect

everyone the same no matter how much
money they have, their race, gender, how
they look, or what social class they are in.
