Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 1 April 18 -23, 2016)
During my first day in training, I was oriented about the health and
safety precautions in the plant. The safety of an employee is their
number one priority. Quality of their product is just second. They also
discussed to us the area where PPEs(Personal Protective Equipments)
must be worn. On the orientation, they said that we should always ask
for RA(Risk Assessment). It is a material that covers the identification,
evaluation, and estimation of the levels of risks involved in a situation,
their comparison against benchmarks or standards, and determination
of an acceptable level of risk. Being able to accurately figure out the
risk assessment will help you to know if you the right approach to a
certain accident. A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) must be readily
available too. It is a document that contains information on the
potential health effects of exposure to chemicals, or other potentially
dangerous substances, and on safe working procedures when handling
chemical products.

On my second day, my PPEs were issued by the safety department and

I need to return it after my training. In this scenario, I can say that they

really value their employees. On the following day, I was introduced to

the quality department where i will be assigned. I performed the
different analysis for sample and was taught why it is necessary.

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 2 April 25 -30, 2016)
In this week, I was still familiarizing myself with the procedures in
testing the cement sample. The lab analyst is guiding me in doing so.
During this week, I perform few test because I am not yet confident
with what I am doing. But I am not hesitant in asking what I do not
know because I might do something wrong. For me, asking is the best
way to be knowledgeable in everything you do. This will help you to be
aware to the experiments. You may ask the principles and theories to
your supervisor and will help you to understand your laboratory works.
Focus is one of the keys to have an accurate result in every
experiment. You should be aware in all aspects so that you can easily
observe everything that is happening inside or outside the laboratory
area.

I always inform my supervisor to the results of my experiments so that

they will know if theres any problem about the production or to my
procedures.

Communication is very important to the trainee and

supervisor job relationship during the training so that it may lessen the
problems encountered.

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 3 May 2 - 7, 2016)
During this week, I am

now at ease of what I am doing. Bomb

Calorimetry became my morning routine. After obtaining the CV of the

sample, its wash will be analyze to get the sulfur content. My duration
in doing he test improved. Before I always asked my supervisor or the
lab analyst on how to do or what to do with the sample before
performing the task but starting this week I can already performed
those tests well. I already memorized the procedure.

I performed a new task this week and that is the fused bead analysis. It
is easy to performed but you should really be aware and precise about
the weight of the sample because if its not accurate, you can not finish
the test correctly.

I also participated during the auditing for ISO 17025. It is the single
most important standard for calibration and testing laboratories around
the world. Laboratories that are accredited to this international

standard have demonstrated that they are technically competent and

able to produce precise and accurate test and/or calibration data. It
was a great experience because the auditors are also asking me about
the test I am doing. Thankfully, minimal flaws were seen.

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 4 May 9 - 14, 2016)
I am now down to the last 2 weeks on my training. In this week, I am
now really capable of doing the job alone. As usual, in the morning I
performed the CV analysis for coal, stockpile and RDF (Refuse Derived
Fuel). After obtaining its CV, the washed of the sample can now be
analyzed to obtain its Sulfur content.While doing so, I am performing
the complete analysis for cement sample such as LOI (Loss On Ignition)
Determination, Blaine Method and free lime analysis.

I also did a new experiment and that is the IR (Insoluble Residue)

Analysis for cement. Insoluble residue is a non-cementing material
which is present in Portland cement. This residue material affects the
properties of cement, especially its compressive strength.

During this week, I met an operator and shes been telling me how the
cement is produces, what are the ingredients, why sometimes we do
not have the certain type of cement sample. Because of her I
understand the plant more.

Self-Assessment and Improvement (Week 5 May 16 - 21, 2016)
This is my last week. I am happy because it is now over but sad as well
because I will definitely miss the people in the laboratory, the tests I
performed and the struggle to go to the plant. In this week, there is no
much of a sample because they are having some problems with
regards to the clinker (main component of cement). The clinker is not
stable right now because of the rain but still they are doing their best
to produce the best cement.

Ive learned that Accuracy and Precision are very important in this
company and its start from the production and testing to get its
accurate results. As the chemical analysis was done with accuracy, this
may lead to a great product and successful plant.

Before my last week ended, we hangout on our managers place. I feel

like I am really welcome to their family.
