INTRODUCTION
The structure of this project consists of two parts, the first one is the prediction of the Average
Power Production for a single wind turbine placed in Endelave, Denmark.
The second part is the design of a windfarm and the prediction of the average power production,
but this time to an approximation of 80GWh. In the project you can find the number and type of
wind turbines required for producing approximatively 80GWh on the island of Terschelling,
Netherlands.
The first step was to find the closest Meteorological Station, in our case, Beldringe and obtain its
Generalized Wind Climate.
In order for WAsP software to provide us the necessary data regarding the Meteorological
Station, a Terrain Map had to be edited using WAsP and Google Earth.
To export our Vector Map into WAsP we used SRTM Importer in which we wrote the islands
coordinates, which were given by Google Earth.
We have synchronized the vector map with Google Earth map, in order to obtain a better view
over the roughness.
The map was edited, roughness for elevations and obstacles was added and the final result is
found in the picture below:
The generator selected was a Vestas V80 (2 MW). The data for it can be found below:
In order to see the best place to put the wind turbine, we have calculated AEP using the resource
grid. The following result was plotted:
By positioning the wind turbine though the use of AEP, we have reached a performance of 7.898
GWh.

The roughness was modified according to the elevation and the obstacles found on the map.
A generalized wind climate was plotted using the data from the Terschelling Meteorological
Station throw which we were able to obtain the Observed Wind Climate.
After creating a resource grid, with the wind turbine generator from Vestas V90 (3 MW), we
were able to calculate the AEP.
In order to gain an annual production of approximatively 80 GWh, we created five sites, adding
5 turbines of 2 types, as following:
-
In the end, we have found that a 3D distance has a better performance, with smaller losses.
The second row consists of 2 Vestas V90 turbines, rotor diameter of 90m.
After trying different placements and distances between each other, we have discovered that a
better performance is achieved when using a 5D distance between the two.

CONCLUSION
By analyzing the AEP of the turbine in Endelave, we ended up with a result of 7.898 GWh.
Digitalizing the map, we realized that terrain surface characteristics, such as roughness and
elevation has a significant impact over the wind speed, affecting the efficiency of the turbine.
Moreover, in the second part, after the AEP analysis, we found that the distance between turbines
has a big influence over their efficiency.
