TRAVEL AGENCY MANAGEMENT AND OPERATION

In Malaysia, a travel agent that works In travel agency have many things to do when they start their
business. When we talk about travel agency business, it means any business of providing all or any of

the many services such as selling, arranging or making available for commission tickets within our
country or outside of the country. It also included for commission accommodation place in or outside
Malaysia or any other services that have connection with tourism. Thus, travel agent have to associate
with regulatory associations so that their firm can expands so well and successful.
For example, travel agency must required submit application to Ministry of Tourism and Culture as
known as MOTAC. From here, they have to manage to get their license through Licensing Division
either via online (http://www.spip.gov.my/) or through form. By providing paper work, travel agency
should have to explain details for instance objective setting up the company, business target groups,
marketing methods, tour packages offered and others. Once their application have approved, the ministry
will give a temporary granted in principal letter which is valid for two months. So, from that, travel
agency should have enable to prepare their operating premises by setting up the floor plan, official rental
agreement and many more within that two months. Once all these manage smoothly, travel agency will
able to get full license and sticker when the licensing fee have been settled and the necessary documents
are provided.
Once the travel agency have operates their business successfully, they also should have to renew their
licenses when this license only valid just only for one year for minimum and 3 year for maximum. So,
from there, they also have to refer to MOTAC within 60 days before the expire date of the license by
visiting the same website to renew for continue their operation. However, they also have to attend the
Travel & Tour Enhancement Course (TTEC). The Association of Tourism Training Institutes of Malaysia
(ATTIM) has been designated as the lead agency by MOTAC to conduct TTEC, and ATTIM has
appointed various training institutions in the country to conduct the course. It is important to any travel
agencies so that they can manage to renew their licenses.
Beside that, MOTAC also served many services to travel agency which included transport (tour bus,
taxi,etc), tourist guide application, tourism training application and many more. From here also, tavel
agency can seek many opportunities to gain their strategies how to attract tourists as many events and
activities published on this website. Travel agents are able to prepare their marketing through packaging
many packages so on by surveying and making strategies.

Another association that travel agency have to associate is Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel
Agents or MATTA. The founder of MATTA was the late Mr Loh Yit Lock who was also the 1st

President. This association is one of the most important for travel agency because they served many
opportunities to these companies. MATTA are able to help many travel agencies to promote their
packages, their services to tourist that want to come for visiting Malaysia or people who want going to
oversea for sightseeing or others.
It can be see when this association organize a fair which called Matta Fair that organize every year in
PWTC Kuala Lumpur. From this fair, many travel agencies have joined this fair as well as many tourist
from all countries came so that they can survey the packages that served by travel agencies. For example,
Muslim that want to make a hajj or umrah packagers can also survey here and travel agencies takes their
chances to promote their interesting packages. Beside that, The MATTA FAIR also provide visitors with a
host of exciting and value for money travel options and excellent business and travel opportunities.
In essence, all the attractions that have made MATTA FAIR the No. 1 Consumers' Travel Fair in
Malaysia become most unwaiting events for tourists and also to travel agency itself. Beside that, MATTA
also help their members which are travel agent that registered in this association for to build their skills
and knowledge. MATTA ACADEMY is one part of their platform so that travel agents can gain their
knowledge and skill based on training that will be provided to them. They can also fulfill the position in
MATTA association if they qualified and also they can gain their experience as well expand their
agencies. This we can see on MATTAs Exco which most of them were from travel agencies and they
were a part of this association. Hence, we can see that MATTA just not only help travel agent to promote
and publish their services, but it helps them to build their skill from the academy itself.

As for conclusion, all of these association that mention above are important to travel agents so that they
can expand their companies so well and gain knowledge through the association. Therefore, travel agents
that worked in travel agencies have to be put more effort so that they can more attached to many
associations in Malaysia either for outbound tourism or inbound tourism.
