Pile Driving Analyzer model PAX

The Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) model PAX

crowns the succession of improvements that
PDAs have experienced during their lifetime. It
is sufficiently small to be portable, is battery
operated, and weighs only 5 kg (10 lbs). Its
display doubles up as its control panel and
keyboard, and has extremely high visibility in
all lighting conditions. The PAX features broad
band internet remote data transmission
capability.

When used in Remote Mode the PAX offers a field

crew
a
simple
software
interface
and
straightforward mode of operation.
An office
computer running PDA-W and receiving data gives
the engineer the ability to perform comprehensive
monitoring and analysis in real time. For those that
opt to be present during the execution of the load
test, the PAX Local Mode performs as a full
capability Pile Driving Analyzer coupled with a full
capabilities personal computer. The PAX gives the
field engineer access to all variables of interest in
real time. It links directly to the latest version of the
dynamic
test
data interpretation
software
CAPWAP.

Pile Dynamics conceived the idea of collecting

dynamic testing data on site and transmitting it to
an office computer back in the 1990s, and
patented the first remote data transmitting PDA
(the PAL-R) in 2001.
PDA users in Australia,
England, Sweden, Malaysia and other countries
immediately embraced remote dynamic testing.
These early adopters realized that sending only
the instrument to the job site, and using the PDA
software (PDA-W) to monitor the load test in an
office computer would give them a competitive
advantage. They could now offer their clients
tremendous scheduling flexibility and enjoy no
down time due to travel or weather delays.

The PDA model PAX collects and processes

data acquired by strain transducers and
accelerometers manufactured by Pile
Dynamics.

Engineers around the world have been using the PDA to verify the
bearing capacity of all types of deep foundations for more than 30 years.
High strain dynamic tests, as tests performed with PDAs are commonly
known, are carried out quickly and are non-destructive. Properly
interpreted dynamic test results (after PDA data are analyzed with
CAPWAP software) correlate very well with foundation capacities
obtained from conventional static load tests. The test also confirms the
integrity of the foundation element. When dynamic testing is performed
during initial driving of piles, it also provides information on driving
hammer performance and driving stresses.
High Strain Dynamic Tests are standardized by ASTM D4945. All models
of PDA, as well as Pile Dynamics strain transducers and accelerometers,
conform to those standards.
