Unity Checks

___*Use the Display Select command to show color coded UC

ranges and check plate stresses
___*Use the Display
Labeling command to display the max combined member unity
checks, etc.
___*Be aware of
discrepancies between the list file and postvue-especially with
joint can
NOTES:

Reactions

Deflected Shape

Maximum
Deflection

1) If you have overstressing-see what is causing it and

determine if the overstressing is realistic
2) Get a general idea
of U.C. ratios and look for irregularities (i.e. ratios that are too low)
___*Use the Display Labeling command to display the joint
reactions in the X, Y, and Z directions. Do they make sense when
compared to load summaries?
___*Use the Display Shape command and check the animation of
shape box with number of steps per cycle as 100 or more to view
the deflected shape of the structure. Check the deflected shape
for at least two wave directions that are perpendicular to each
other (ex. 0 degrees and 90 degrees) and verify that these make
___*Use
the Display
Labeling
command
sense. (Adjust
the shape
scale as
needed.)to display the max joint
displacements, and make sure they do not exceed the allowable
deflection limits.

Is the Wave Crest

Captured in the
Analysis?

Check the maximum moments and base shear values for

each wave direction in the Shear and Moment at
Mudline Versus Wave Position table to be sure that
these values fall somewhere in the middle i.e. they are not
in the first or last step. **Note, you must have a 1 or 2
specified in column 76 of your WAVE card to print this info.
Highlighted printouts of this data is acceptable for those
who prefer it.

Basic Loading
Check

Check both the Seastate Basic Load Case Summary

and the Seastate Combined Load Case Summary to
ensure all loading has been taken into account. Ensure no
double dipping in load combinations. Verify with load
summary provided by model creator.

Member Unity
Ratios

Check the Member Unity Check Range Summary to

ensure that all member unity ratios fall below 1.0 or 0.85
(where applicable); if not check justification(s).

Joint Unity Ratios

Check the Joint Can Summary in the output list file to

ensure that all joint unity ratios are below 1.0 for actual
loads and the 50% strength check where applicable (50%
strength check not applicable for appurtenances such as
risers, boat landings, older structures, etc.); if not check
justification(s).

Plate Stress Ratios Check Plate Unity Check Range Summary in the
output list file to ensure that all plate stress ratios fall
below unity; if not check justification(s).
Pile Penetration
Check the Pile Axial Capacity Summary to verify that
Minimum Factors of pile safety factors meet the minimum values of 1.5 for
Safety
storm cases and 2.0 for operating cases. Look at soil
report to determine actual capacities in tension and
compression. Ensure that a justification calculation is
provided if necessary.

Pile Unity Ratios

Check the Pile Maximum Unity Check Summary to

ensure that the unity ratios of all piles fall below 1.0
(existing) or 0.85 (new design).

Pile Capacity

Plot out the capacity curves for piles. Compare this curve
to the ultimate pile capacity curve provided as a part of
the soil report (model engineer to provide). This could be
mulitple curves depending on the different pile sizes used.
