*Complex Patterns of Inheritance Practice Problems*

Directions: For each set of problems write the pattern of inheritance in the
margin (dominance, incomplete dominance, or co-dominance, and solve all
problems. Show all your work for credit!
The four oclock plant has only two alleles for flower color, but has three different
phenotypes: red flowered plants (rr), white flowered plants (ww) and pink flowered
plants.
1. If two pink flowers are crossed, what are the genotypes and phenotypes of the
offspring?

2. If a white flower and a pink flower are crossed, what are the genotypes and
phenotypes of the offspring?

Roan coat color (RW) in cattle is the result of codominance.

3. If a red coat (RR) cow or bull is mated with a white coat (WW) cow or bull, what
are the phenotypes and genotypes of the offspring?

There are white-coated cattle (CWCW), red-coated cattle (CRCR) and roan cattle
(CRCW).
4. If two roan cattle are crossed, what % of the offspring will be roan?

In pea plants tall (T) is dominant to short (t)..

5. A homozygous tall pea plant is crossed with a heterozygous pea plant. What % of
the offspring will be homozygous dominant?

6. What are the possible genotypes of a tall plant?

7. If 50% of one generation of pea plants is short, what were the probable genotypes
of the parents?

8. If a heterozygous pea plant is crossed with a short pea plant, how many different
phenotypes will be produced?

9. If a cross between two tall pea plants produced 75% tall plants and 25% short
plants, what are the genotypes of the tall parent plants?

10.
A cross between a tall pea plant and a short pea plant produces some short
plants. What is the genotype of the tall plant?

11.
If two heterozygous tall plants are crossed, what % of the offspring will have
the same phenotype as the parents?

In guinea pigs, black coat color is dominant to white coat color.

12.
If a white guinea pig is mated to a heterozygous guinea pig, how many
different phenotypes are produced?

13.

How many different genotypes are produced?

14.
A cross between a black guinea pig and a white guinea pig produces some
white offspring. What is the genotype of the black guinea pig?

Speckled or Checkered feathers (BW) in chickens is the result of codominance.

15. If a white-feathered chicken (WW) is mated with a speckled chicken (BW), what

are the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring?
