Daily Responsibilities
Be sure your laptop case is closed and zipped when moving with your computer.
Bring the laptop and power supply to school each day.
Carry laptops in cases across your body at all times. Carry laptops without cases with both
hands in front of your body.
Recharge the battery nightly; return the laptop to school fully charged.
Use your laptop for educational purposes only (i.e. downloading personal iTunes music or
games to the machine is not permitted in the Lower School).
Miscellaneous
Do not attempt to repair any school computer. If you have laptop difficulty at home, alert a
teacher first thing in the morning.
Do not copy any software from a school laptop to any other computers.
Do not turn the Dock Hiding or Dock Magnification features on.
Do not create or use invisible folders on any school computer.
Keep the Desktop Change Picture feature turned OFF on school computers.
Do not choose the tile option when changing a computers Desktop image.
Keep the Desktops of school computers organized.
Students are not permitted to empty the trash on school computers.
Always use print preview before printing out your finished work.
Parent Responsibilities
Your child has been loaned a laptop computer to personalize his/her education this year. It is
essential that both the parent and student responsibilities be followed to ensure the safe,
efficient, and ethical operation of the computer. Please be advised that laptop controls are set
so that students will not be able to use the laptop between the hours of 9:30p.m. 5:00a.m.
Monday - Friday.
In order for your child to use the laptop in class and to take it home, we ask that you accept
the following terms and responsibilities:
Understand and support Lovetts policy regarding COPPA (Childrens Online Privacy and
Protection Act, https://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs21-children.htm). Lovett does not
support the use of websites such as Weebly or Facebook by children under the age of 13.
When necessary, a Lovett email address will be used to establish accounts for teacherdirected classroom use.
Decide on the areas of your home where you are comfortable with your child using his or her
laptop; discuss your at-home expectations with your child. We recommend common family
areas.
Discuss appropriate use of the Internet with your child and supervise your childs use
of the Internet.
Set reasonable guidelines for home use and supervise this use.
Be aware of the websites your child uses.
Do not change the configuration of the computer software.
Do not download any programs from the Internet or other sources.
Do not remove any programs or files from the laptop, except your childs personal
documents.
Ensure that the laptop is used only by the child to whom it was issued.
Help your child remember to bring the laptop and power supply back to school each day.
If the laptop and/or power supply is left at home, please do not bring the items to
school for them.
Help your child remember to recharge the battery nightly and remind him/her to put the
power supply back into the Infocase pocket in the morning.
Review this document with your child to ensure that expectations are clear.
Report any laptop problems, damage, or questionable activity to a member of the technology
team or one of the classroom teachers.
Do not attempt to repair the laptop on your own.
React calmly if your child reports a negative online experience.
Talk with and learn from your child about his or her online encounters.
