houseofeducation?"Generally,northIndianastrologersattributethe5thhouse,whilesouthIndiansgivethe4thhouse.I'veaddressed

Withregardstothisquestion,bothnorthandsouthIndiansarerightinmyopinion.However,the4thhouseistypicallyseenfor
compulsoryfoundationaleducation(precollege),whilethe5thhouseisseenfornoncompulsorycollegeeducation,orthepointwhen
thestudenthaschoiceinthesubjectstostudy,andpickingamajor.Soforeducationalcounselingpurposes,meaningwhensomeoneis
tryingtodeterminewhattheyshouldstudyormajorin,it'sa5thhousematter.Also,the5thhouse,5thlord,orkarakasJupiterand
Mercurywillrevealfavorabledashaperiodsaswillbeshowninthefollowingexamplecharts.
InK.N.Rao'sexcellentbook,Astrology,Destiny,&theWheelofTime,hesays:
"ThegreatMaharishiParasharastressestheroleofthe5thhouseforeducation.Oneneednotgointothiscontroversyatthemoment.

Thisarticleprovidesafewgoodillustrationsofhowthe5thhousecanbeseenforpredictingperiodsofeducation.Thisisshownnot
onlyinthenatalchart,butalsointheD24divisionalchart,alsocalledtheChaturvimshamshaorSiddhamsha,whichistheprimary

Whilethetranslatedwordisnot'education'itselfasin'academicpursuits,'it'shintedatby'learning,''intellect'and'knowledge.'The5th
houseistheprocessoflearning,increasingknowledgeandexercisingtheintellect.Whetherit'sformalorinformaleducation,or
acquiringsecularorspiritualknowledgeitcanseenprimarilyfromthe5thhouse.
Anotherhintfromclassictextsthateducationcanbeseenfromthe5thhouse,isintheJaiminiSutras.IntheJaiminisystem,the
karakamshalagnaandthe5thhousefromitindicateone'sprofessionalinclinationsandtheeducationaltrainingsuitableforthat
profession.Here'saquote:
"IfVenusisaloneintheKarakamshaorinthe5thfromit,onebecomesapoet,aneloquentspeaker,andagoodcriticofliterature."

The5thhousecanbeseenforundergraduatestudies,whilethe9thhousecanbeseenforhighereducationorpostgraduatestudies.
UsingtheprincipleofBhavatBhavam,the9thhouseisthe5thhousefromthe5thhouse,orthehigherlevelorhigheroctaveofthe5th
house.Similarly,the5thhouse,beingthe3rdhousefromthe3rdhouse,canbeseenasthehigheroctaveofthe3rdhouse.It'sthe
houseofone'sstrongandintenseinterests,whilethe3rdhouserepresentsone'scasualhobbies.
The5thhousecanalsosecondarilyrepresentthe9thhouse,becauseit'sthe9thhousefromthe9thhouse.Therefore,itprimarily
representsundergraduatedegrees,butcanalsoindicatepostgraduatedegreessecondarily,ascanbeseeninthefollowingexamples.

Lastly,themostimportantkarakasorsignificatorsforeducationareMercuryandJupiter,andeitherplanet'sdashacanindicateaperiod
ofeducation,regardlessiftheyhaveaconnectionwiththe5thor9thhouseornot.

Jupiterdashawouldbefavorableperiodsforeducation.
