ASSIGNMENT

Assignment MSc Drilling

1.

The following questions are based on the scenario below:

13-3/8 casing was landed and cemented at 8,500 MD/8,000TVD with 9.5 ppg mud, with overbalance 0.5ppg EMW.
13-3/8 casing : L-80, 68 lb/ft, ID: 12.415. Collapse pressure rating =2,264 psi
Leak off test at 13-3/8 casing shoe = 12 ppg equivalent mud weight
Current 12-1/4 hole to TD at 12,000MD/10,000TVD with a mud weight of 10.0 ppg, BHA = 500ft, Avg BHA OD = 6.5, DP OD = 5
Pore Pressure at TD 12,000 MD = 5,000 psi, Possible maximum formation pressure = 10.5 ppg, Influx gradient (gas) 0.12 psi/ft

Determine
a) Maximum Anticipated Surface Pressure (MASP) while drilling,
b) Determine maximum allowable shut in casing pressure (MASICP)
c) Calculate influx volume at Shoe based on the influx height. Calculate influx volume at Shoe based on the influx
height. Determine the maximum kick that the well can take and rig personnel can circulate it out of hole without
breaking formation (Influx volume at bottom).
d) Assuming the pressure behind casing full cement with mix water density, can 13 3/8 handle the MASP above ?
Explain in calculation.
e) If this is DW well with 3000ft water depth. Calculate a worst case discharge (WCD) load for the 13-3/8 casing,
both Collapse WCD and Burst WCD. Assume fully cemented 13 3/8 with mix-water density. Any issue with using
the L-80 pipe if exposed to each of the WCD loads? Provide safety factor for Burst and Collapse respectively.
