By the end of the lesson, students will be able to understand the


relationships between cause and effect, in their daily lives, as
well as in their reading and writing.

Visually assessing whether students are able to identify scenarios in


which cause and effect are present.

Materials

Introduction (5 min)

Explain to students what cause and effect is and go


through the slides on the smart board with them (this
is how they are used to being introduced to the
various strategies, so I would like to keep this
consistent).

Body/Closure (5 min)

Engage the students in a read-aloud.


- pose questions at the students based on cue words that signify

cause and effect (So, Because, If, etc.)


-Students will raise their hands to give guesses at what will happen
next in the story based on the causes and/or effects.
- If teacher gestures to students they they can all answer at once,
then students may do so. (By the end of the story the are usually
fairly engaged, so as long as they are all participating, I will be
satisfied to see that they are grasping the concepts).
-Once the read aloud is finished, I will close by asking students to
raise their hand if they can think of a cause and effect of their own.
-Teacher will take responses from a few students and then send
them off to their next daily 5 choice.
