ABOUT THE SEMINAR

A one-day National Seminar is being organised on 1st
October, 2016 on the theme Strengthening Teacher
Education: Challenges and Strategies. Under the
direction of the Supreme Court of India, NCTE (National
Council for Teacher Education) has revised the curricula at
B.Ed. and M.Ed. levels in 2015. But, the curriculum was
revised in a hurry. A Debate is still going on regarding the
quality and structure of two years B.Ed. and M.Ed.
programmes. Teacher-educators and experts perceive
these changes as insufficient to improve the quality of the
system as a whole and that of the prospective teachers in
particular. The need of the hour therefore, is to devise ways
and means to strengthen the modified scheme of teacher
education. The seminar will provide a unique platform for
academicians, researchers and professionals to ponder
over current challenges and to suggest and share
strategies to meet these challenges. It will focus on critical
appraisal of B.Ed. and M.Ed. curricula, innovations,
effective assessment, issues related to the quality
sustenance and current challenges which have arisen in
teacher education especially after the recent changes in
the duration, structure and pattern of studies.
The aim of this seminar is to bring practitioners, thinkers
and scholars in education on a common platform to
deliberate upon different challenges that stand in the way
of effective implementation of the revised and updated
curriculum and to think of ways and means to strengthen
the system as a whole, thereby, improving the quality of
teacher education.

THEMES TO BE DISCUSSED
1. Challenges and Areas of Concern in Two Year Teacher
Education Programmes.
2. Enhancing the Quality of Trainees and Teacher
Educators.
3. Innovative Practices in Teacher Education.
