UPDATE ON PARISH FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
We continue to make improvements to our parish facilities
which, given the age of our buildings, have been in need of •
much repair.
Here is a list of projects that have been completed:
• The bathrooms at the church which were in a com-
pletely deplorable condition have been fully refur-
bished. Many of you have offered very positive com-
ments about the “new” rest rooms and it is obvious that
everyone is doing their part to keep the rest rooms
clean and neat. The “token” system is working very
well and ensures both safety and cleanliness.
• We have also completely renovated our once run
down parish hall: the dilapidated ceiling is fixed; fresh nity to support this ongoing work in upcoming second col-
paint has been applied; we installed new lighting and
restored the hard wood floors to their original luster.
• We have repaired all of the leaking roofs, some of
which had been leaking for many years.
• The pigeon excrement which filled the interior of the
walls and the area between the ceiling and the roof of
various parts of the church has been removed. The
stench which this unpleasant situation produced has
been eliminated.
• We have refurbished the altar boys’ sacristy, install-
ing a sink, a sacrarium and badly needed cabinetry for
the storage of items which are used for the Mass.
• We installed a new sound system, including all new
speakers and microphones.
• We stripped and stained all of the church pews and
painted the ceiling, repairing sections thereof which
had been damaged by water leakage.
• All of the pews and kneelers were reinforced and
repaired.
• We stripped the floors of the church which had been
covered with years of dirt and grime.
As this list shows, we have accomplished a lot. But, as any-
one can see, we have so much more to do. The facilities of
our parish are a part of the legacy that has been left by
those who have gone before us. We have a solemn respon-
sibility to take good care of these facilities for our present
needs and for the future.
With this in mind, I want to inform you of the projects that
we are currently working on.
• We are going to sandblast the exterior of the church
and repair all cracks and other defects.
• We are going to paint the exterior of the church in a
color that will be in keeping with its “mission” style
but will also make the church stand out resplendently

on the corner of 20th Street and Pasadena.
We are increasing the electrical output to the church
facilities to enable us to install an adequate heating
system in the newly remodeled parish hall.
• Finally, we are going to restore the exquisite stained
glass window of Our Lord in the garden of Geth-
semane which is located above the main door of the
church. Most people have never noticed it, but it is
there. Once repaired, we will backlight this gorgeous
window so that everyone who passes by will be in-
spired by this image of Jesus in prayer.
All of this costs money and you will be given the opportu-
lections.
May the Lord bless and grant success to all these projects
which are for His greater honor and glory.
