procedure; special importance of criminal procedure; evolution of the
law of criminal procedure; an overview of Criminal Procedure Code
1973; whether Criminal Procedure Code is a pure adjective law
Classes 3 to 7 Pre- trial procedure; investigation by police- meaning
and stages of investigation; organisation of the police; functions and
powers of police with regard to criminal procedure
Classes 8 to 16 Meaning of FIR section 154 and all aspects related to
FIR including the evidentiary value of FIR; cognizable and non
cognizable offences
Classes 17 to 24 Pre trial procedure the law of arrest; right of
arrested person under the Constitution and under the law of criminal
Procedure; human rights aspect of arrest; rights of bail and provisions
of bail; distinction between bailable and non- bailable offences
Classes 24 to 28 provisions of search and seizure; General
Procedure; Constitutional validity of search and seizure; human right
violations during search and seizure
Classes 28 to 30 completion of investigation and submission of final
report;
Constitution of criminal courts and offices; prosecutors their duties
functions and powers
Classes 31 to 34 Commencement of proceedings; concept of fair
trial; rights of accused; summons and warrants case and summary

Students are advised to go through the Criminal Law Journal regularly
There will be three class tests and the exact dates will be notified three
days earlier. They would be conducted in December, January and
February which will be a part of CIA. The other would be assignments
which would be indicated in course of time.
In addition students are expected to go through certain important
cases which would be indicated in the class and make brief
presentations about the cases
