THIRD GENDER OR THIRD SEX refer
to a gender category, of people who are
considered neither completely male, nor
completely female. It is a gender identity
separate from 'men' and 'women,' of
people considered to be the intermediate
sex; in-betweens (like the androgynes) or
neutrals (like the agendered).
GAY (bakla) is used label men who
show manifestations of femininity such
as cross-dressing (including identifying
as the opposite sex), and/or who
erotically-romantically desire their same
sex.
LESBIAN (tomboy) is used to label
women who show manifestations of
masculinity (including identifying as the
opposite sex), and/or who erotically-
romantically desire their same sex.
BISEXUALITY is a sexual behavior
or an orientation involving physical or
romantic attraction to both males and
females.
TRANSGENDER is a general term
applied to a variety of individuals,
behaviors, and groups involving
tendencies to vary from the usual gender
roles. Transgender is the state of one's
"gender identity" (self-identification as
woman, man, neither or both) not
matching one's "assigned sex"
(identification by others as male, female
or intersex based on physical/genetic
sex).
Criminal laws against homosexuality
Homosexual acts carried out in a
public place could fall under ‘grave
scandal,’ penalized by Article 200 of the
Revised Penal Code (RPC).
Military
The Armed Forces of the
Philippines officially end the ban on gays
serving in the military. It shows a zero
tolerance for discrimination among its
ranks. Once inside the organization, gays
as members of the Armed Forces.
Sectors/Political Party
Ang Ladlad is a political party
focused on Human Rights, and their
platform brings the civil rights of the
LGBT community. In 2004 May election
and November 2009, Ang Ladlad sought
accreditation from the Comelec, but were
denied and subsequently barred from
being able to participate in the said
elections.
Civil rights legislation
Sexual orientation is not included
in the nation's civil rights code and thus
LGBT persons have no legal recourse
when they are the victim of public or
private sector discrimination, whether at
school, in the workplace, or health care
settings.
Marriage & family
The Philippines does not offer any
legal recognition to same-sex marriage,
civil unions or domestic partnership
benefits. Since 1991 the Metropolitan
Community Church Philippines headed by
Father Mickley has been conducting
Same Sex Holy Unions in the country.
The Order does not call the ceremonies
“Holy Matrimony” because they are not
recognized under Philippine law. Fr.
Mickley formed a spiritual and gay
center, The Order of St. Aelred, which is
named in honor of a Catholic Saint, who,
he says was a gay.
